Do you keep track of what source of marketing, PR or promotions your business uses to secures the most clients, customers or business? If not, you should. The term ROI is still relevant today even though it now takes a theoretical physicist instead of a business major student to breakdown how social media effects a business’ bottomline. Finding where your time and energy is producing your revenue is still part of determining the ROI..or the bottomline. So where are your customers coming from?
Are your business leads coming from Twitter or Facebook? For nearly 45% of the business models being used today the answer to that questions is No. For a significant number of businesses their clients and customers come directly from more offline mainstream sources..and yes..a large amount of these business’ revenue is secured through..get this… telephone call conversations. The second source of securing business for an even growing number of businesses is through direct, face-to-face contact with a real live person.
So why are businesses out spamming Twitter with link only posts? The answer is..because they were told to by some of the leading PR groups around who look at what they can make from the advice they give instead of looking to see if the advice they offer really is appropriate for the business plan. The result..Twitter/Facebook indigestion for those business people who understand how social media really works.
The use of social media is very popular and should be part of every business’s form of promotion. However, for a growing number of developing new businesses the telephone and face-to-face conversations are still the number one source of solid business producing contacts.
Maybe more resources need to be put back into hiring people to train the newbies in business on how to use the phone for basic verbal conversation instead of digital transmissions through social networking apps which many feel is the catch all answer to every business.
