Golf Was Good – Business Golf Was Better
(Posted at Mr Business Golf)
2004 was a LONG time ago…but I still remember my first blog.
Blogging has come a long way and so have I. Back in the beginning blogging was NEW, and YES, threatening. So threatening, that many of the mainstream journalists would do everything they could to discredit anyone who was blogging.
Initially, back then I didn’t care what went on around me. I had a mission and that was to promote my book..How To Play Business Golf. I would write at least one blog daily about what was going on in the world of golf…which was a LOT back then.
Tiger Woods was consistently burning up the scoreboards with some unheard-of low scores and doing it all with a smile. Fred Couples was Mr. Skins and Phil Mickelson was the dark horse. Arnie and Jack still would make an appearance or two and the Bob Hope Classic was THE GOLF TOURNAMENT to go watch.
Golf was GOOD Fun and, yes, golf makes for the best business tool ever made.
But that era of golf all came tumbling down in October 2008 when the worst economic downturn since the great depression hit.
As a result, golf was looked at as a frivolous luxury exploded by many of the culprits who caused the economic bust.
So, golf became a 4 letter word in the business world and nobody wanted to be associated with business people who played golf in fear of them being associated with wasting money.I had to pivot away from my Mr Business Golf enterprise and put more into my business operations consulting blogs on ScotDuke.com. Still, Mr Business Golf stayed on with the Business Golf Country Club on LinkedIn.
For the next ten years, I slowed my blogging to a trickle while I focused on building a new company, SyncLab Media, a video marketing and consulting company. And that is where things stand today.
Will Mr Business Continue?
It appears Golf is becoming popular again with the business community. With that being the case, Mr Business Golf will naturally continue. You’ll just have to stay tuned to find out how.
Who knows, maybe another 20 years of business golf blogging is just starting.
