I’m not sure why the big box commercial real estate firms want to call shared work centers CoWorking Space.
I have been to dozens of these places and yet to find anyone CoWorking in this space. Everyone I have met who rents space in one of the hundreds of open area business centers is Sharing the space for the work they do for themselves or their team. There is no “Co” anything going on. Just a lot of Sharing.
Shared Workspace is Not CoWorking
So, why are these shared workspaces being called CoWorking Space?
I suppose if you look back to the short-lived era of the “.COM” start-ups there were a lot of people crammed into a small office space to work together on a joint venture. Many of them did not produce anything.
The businesses I know that did come out of the Co-Working environment vow to never work in any Open space ever again and to only put their business behind a closed door in a PRIVATE office.
That is why the ERA of CoWorking was so short-lived. Nobody was Coworking…they were Co-Napping…or Co-Drinking and even C0-Partying…but not CoWorking.
So, let’s call it what it is…Shared Workspace!! OK…Moving on.
Let me know how I can help.
