Smartphones Should Come with Etiquette Training

April 30, 2021 By Scot Duke

Every Smartphone brand should come with a full day of boot camp style training.

Not only would this provide users training on how to use the phone effectively but would be delivered like a drill instructor lectures on how NOT to use the phone.

Like,

  • When it is NOT appropriate to use the Speaker Phone feature.
  • Understanding that just because the person on the phone is in Australia there is NO NEED in raising your voice to the level needed for them to hear you without using the phone.
  • ALWAYS keep the phone on silent at all times when in the presence of others.
  • NEVER use the Fart ringtone for notifications you receive.

These are just a few of the instructions today’s smartphone users need to be sternly given before they are allowed to purchase a smartphone.

Stop the Madness

Many of the businesses today who are grossly misusing their smartphones in public do so thinking they are being productive when in actuality they are ruining their personal and professional image.

I was told…boldly I might add…that someone …” showing off their smartphone skills in public is also demonstrating their ability to effectively communicate with others.”

What I feel I was just told was…

“Hey, Look at my $1000 iPhone I bought!  I have to be cool if I have one of these bad boys”

Not sure what it is going to take to get people to realize that smartphones are an extension of a person’s persona.   How a smartphone is used in the business world is looked upon as how they would do business for or with a person.

Seldom is being on a speakerphone out in the general public or in crowded elevators acceptable professional behavior.  Actually, I’m not sure what behavior talking on a speakerphone in public is acceptable.

So..bottomline…think about it when you hit that Speaker button on your phone.  Look around and see who is around you that will probably object to having to lesson to your personal or business calls.  If there is anyone for 100 ft..put the earbuds in or….heck, just put the phone up to your and get after it!

Let me know how I can help.
