In this day of limited access to the physical world and our only access to information is via the Internet, it is easy for many people to build mistrust of others and anger from not being able to know what is true…or false.
So, As I See It
It was easy before the shutdown to go places and see things happening with your own eyes.
Now, all we have to feed us information are people with their cellphones and the media with their studio camera, feeding us images of what THEY want us to see…and believe.
Just writing these words angers me in the fact that all you have to go on to believe me in what I putting in all of these words.
Times Is Changing Us
Yes, I know. I promised not to get political and I will honor that since there is enough political drama going on in other blogs to keep you busy. However, what is forcing the change in our culture is not from mother nature…it is human nature. Is that a form of politics?
Yes, many are pointing their finger at the Coronavirus as what changed our way of living. That more than likely had a lot to do with it. However, at some point, the pandemic began with a human…and a human, or millions of humans, creating the environment for the virus to spread.
So, the finger needs to be pointed at humans as who changed our lives…our economy…our world.
So, What are we going to do?
Is there a fix? Or do we want to fix it? Or… just move on with our lives till how we are living becomes normal?
All good questions.
Naturally, there is a fix. And of course, moving on, making how we live today the new norm, may lead to new ways of doing things….like breathing.
New things are good. As a few of us can remember when the internet came out…that was New…and it changed the world. The internet came about from a huge change in the economy and an epic change in the social world made from the end of world war two. Yes…bad things do make changes for the good.
So what Good might come from this pandemic that is still going on after a full year? Or is something worse than the pandemic on its way?
New Business Operations
Either way, businesses will have to be managed differently.
Sales groups will have to get used to working in isolation or from safe bunkers where they use teleconferencing to make a sale, which will lead to teleconferencing evolving past the poor quality ZOOM experience to something that has a better quality produced virtual video phone systems.
Marketing groups will have to push academia to train more people to be “camera-ready” talent since videos will be the only marketing tool that reaches the consumer.
Operations will have to be more data-driven than ever…if that is even possible…and then have the human resources to keep up with marketing and sales. Operations will have to take a more commanding lead of businesses or companies since operations will become the strength of the business or company.
Financing departments will have to be managed by leaders in the global financial world. New funding for the company will have to be found and the revenue made by the company will have to be creatively invested to provide the profit margins needed to float the boat.
Consumers Become Even More Demanding
Consumers will change to become even more demanding of businesses to provide them with information quickly and in high-quality visuals since it takes to long to read the 2500 word product descriptions marketing/sales groups throw at them.
YouTube will finally cash in and change to become the consumer’s focal point driving Facebook and Twitter to filter out all of the muck that obviously turns off consumers.
Consumers might even demand there be a New Internet be developed. Yes…that could be a real thing.
So, Again!!!
So,…again…as I see it. The business operations used 40 years ago will be how businesses have to change back to deal with the New Norm. Oh, I know..going back to a more structured way of managing a business is going to make a lot of people sick.
Especially those who are out today pushing for businesses to accept the “Creatives” way of doing business. There is a place for everyone in the ‘new norm’. Everyone will need to understand that to get back to a more prosperous economy a stronger leadership of businesses is needed…and in most cases where there are stockholders involved…stronger leadership will be mandated.
There is going to be a butt load of things business people and consumers are not going to like about the ‘New Norm’ way of doing business.
Fortunately, the new norm will only last about 5 years and then a new cycle with start to change to something new and unknown will come about.
Something to look forward to.
Let me know how I can help.
