Three Ingredients Used to Make an Awesome Talk Show Video

October 8, 2020 By Scot Duke

The talk show type videos are really gaining popularity.   There are a lot of remarkable talk show on the internet and also now appearing on OTT’s.

SyncLab Media is launching a few talk show type video podcast over the next few months.  BizTini to just name one.

What we have found that makes a talk show video podcast type programs popular has to do with several factors.

Here are three ingredients used to make an awesome talk show video.

1. Quality Production

Yes, please put down the smartphone.  Consumers and video viewers are extremely worn out from the incredible volume of smartphone produced videos.

Really…to say everyone is producing smartphone videos is a total understatement.  Don’t get me wrong…most of the smartphones today have cameras that almost match some of the cameras we have in the studio.

However, what makes the difference is who is behind the camera…how the camera is held…the exposure setting on the camera…the lighting of the area and talent….the AUDIO…and the list goes on and on.

If the talk show video is produced to sell a product or provide exposure to a sponsor then the videos are targeted to consumers.

I can not say enough how many times we hear from people tell us how aggravated they are with the videos produced by smartphone users.  These people are the consumers that many businesses want and they are quickly clicking OFF videos produced by smartphones.

Yet, this does not seem to deter many people who appear to carry a smartphone in each hand.  Many of these smartphone users we know and we cringe every time we go to our LinkedIn feed and see them posting a smartphone video.

So, if you are going to produce a talk show video or currently are producing a video podcast…get ye to a studio!

2. Show Audience Appreciation

The most successful talk shows focus on making the audience comfortable.  This goes back to needing a quality video production.  Being able to see who is on the talk show and hear them clearly calms the viewer down and keeps their finger off the channel changer or the Next Button on the keyboard.

Offering a program filled with interesting information and uniqueness also shows audience appreciation.

Keeping the language used simple and not talking over your audience’s head by using a lot of jargon and technical lingo helps.

I appreciate a host of a talk show taking a moment to translate what their quest was saying.   Having your audience not understanding what is being talked about makes viewers very uncomfortable.

3. Clear Call to Action

Too many times talk shows and video podcasts fail to tell their viewers what is expected of them.

Providing viewers a clear Call-to-Action statement like…”Ok folks, sit back, relax..we are having (Fill in the name) on the show today and all we ask you to do is listen”…or “We know you are going to enjoy the show today..we have (Fill in the name) author of the book (yada yada)…after we have a chat we will provide you with information on how you can purchase their book”.

Just come out and tell your viewers what the heck you want them to do.  That will settle them down to knowing that they either are going to just listen..or listen and then decide if they want to support their guest.

These three ingredients of a Talk Show Video are the key factors for developing an awesome talk show video podcast.

Yes, there is much, much more, to produce an awesome talk show video.  Fortunately, once you start the other factors should be introduced to you by, hopefully, your executive producer…someone like me…who will lead you through the maze of video production obstacles everyone goes through when they produce a video.

Stay the course and let me know how I can help.
