As you might expect, as the operations director for a video marketing consulting firm I am asked nearly everyday a large number of questions about video marketing.
Why these questions are asked has to do with so many businesses finally starting to understand why they need videos as the centerpiece of their marketing and want to know more.
Unfortunately, there are a number of business leaders who seem to want to debate why they do not want to use video.
Maybe you would be interested to know what the TOP REASONS they give me for why they still are not using videos in their marketing.
So here are the Top 4 Excuses:
#4 One of the weakest excuses I get during my discussions with business people about their marketing has to do with them being totally out of touch with their consumers…or potential consumers. Business people still do not believe that their consumers will watch their videos. It is still hard for me to believe there are so many businesses around who feel they are so entrenched in their market they do not have to worry about anything their competitors are doing. Many business leaders still are confident they are recession or depression proof. Nor do they feel the need for a change. These will be the businesses that will soon find out their revenue potential has plateaued and will join forces with the rest of their market who are starting to worry if they are going to survive.
#3 Other businesses feel all video marketing represents them doing is turning on a smartphone video and posted something to Facebook. Plus, video marketing is something they can do themselves at no cost. These same businesses will spend a boatload of money on Old School marketing and then sit around in a staff meeting wondering why they are losing their top clients.
#2 Business executives do not trust video marketing, as a whole, to do anything worthwhile. “Videos don’t work” is another excuse I hear on why leaders of many businesses are against using video marketing. These usually are the B2B businesses that have traditionally survived on spending a lot on tradeshows and wining and dining top clients. They haven’t heard that the hay-day for the week-long wine and dine tradeshow dried up when the report came out on the first case of COVID-19 killing someone after they attended a conference.
#1 By far..the the Number 1 excuse I hear far too many times from misinformed small and large businesses is…Videos are TOO EXPENSIVE. The reason so many businesses feel videos are too expensive is due to them either going to a video production company instead of a video marketing company to their videos produced or produced a very low-quality video themselves. Naturally, spending money on something that does not work, or will not work, is going to be deemed too expensive.
Many business leaders are at a loss in understanding why consumers would rather watch a video than talk to their salesperson. It is not that consumers don’t like salespeople…well, some consumers do hate salespeople…but they would rather watch a video when they want to instead of listening to a salesperson ramble on about something they do know what to know.
Business owners, executives, and the people who make marketing decisions for a company need to quit stepping around the fact they need to invest in video marketing before their competitors do. Video marketing has been proven over and over to be the most productive marketing strategy.
They need to not be afraid to take the advice of experts in video marketing. Talking to someone who knows what type of videos consumer reacts to will help business leaders gain a better understanding of what they are getting into and how to judge the value of the budget needed for a sustainable video marketing strategy.
