There is only so much wringing of the hands while worrying about how you are going to restart your business you can do before you wear the skin off.
And, sitting around holding your head in your hands worrying about where the revenue is going to coming from to pay the bills is not helping either.
Worrying Is Not Going to Pay the Bills
So, suck it up, get moving….take a jog around the block, do 20 pushups…just anything to get that blood flowing and getting you stronger…because sitting around mopping is not going to make anything change.
Now that you up and around… What’s the Plan?
It is human nature to worry..especially adults who have not been through a few traumatic experiences.
I could think of a few dozen traumatic business issues I have been through in my career and I still get concerned when catastrophic economic disaster crops up like COVID-19.
“Hope” Should Never Be a Strategy
Granted, this current pandemic is extreme as far as the action the government is taking to stop the pandemic.
But let’s get back to stopping the worrying thing you and zillions of other people are doing right now.
At some point, you have to start thinking of what you are going to do. That is called…Making A Plan.
Millennial Worrying Doesn’t Work
I know, for those creative type millennials who all got a trophy for everything they did in life, knowing how to make a plan is something you probably depended on your parents to do for you and are finding making a plan rather hard to do.
My suggestion for you folks has always been…find a mentor. Preferably, someone born in the early 50’s…someone who has battled through a few of these crappy deep dives in the economy that seem to happen about every 10 years or so, and someone who knows how to make a PLAN.
But…I digress. Let’s get back to Making a PLAN.
Plan of Attack
Developing a plan of attack on restarting…rebooting, launching 2.0,…or whatever the heck you want to refer to getting your ass-back-in-the-saddle to drive your business back to profitability…then that is what you call it.
Every business owner and leader needs to be making a plan…right NOW. That is what you should be doing instead of wasting time worrying.
I understand paying the bills is important. But, now that you know you can’t pay your bills and the people you invoice can’t pay your bill…what are you going to do about?
Suing everyone who owes you money is only going to generate a bill from your attorney that you probably can’t pay. So, what is the point?
Take a Deep Breath
Wouldn’t it be better if you just took a deep breath..walk away from your staring at your bank statement…and think about all the things you should be doing for your business to get it ready when all of those pinned up consumers are released to go back to work.
Right now, while everything in the business world is slow is when you need to draft out your plan.
So What Do I Suggest?
Thanks for asking..I was going to tell you whether you did or not because if you have gotten this far into this blog..I can see you really need help with a PLAN.
Here is what I strongly recommend you do.
Look at your marketing plan.
Win the Battle Using Videos
Does it have video marketing in it?
Probably doesn’t.. but if it does… are you producing the videos on your own?
If yes, I really hope you are a videographer, scriptwriter, lighting engineer, audio engineer, a copyright attorney, and cinematographic director all wrapped into one…because, if not…you are going to back to that wring-of-the-hands thing that just is not an appealing look for you.
Back to what I recommend you do.
If you are producing videos yourself or not producing any videos to market your business this is where you need to focus your planning.
Gotta Spend Money
Video marketing is where you need to focus on spending whatever meager funds you have left in your budget. If you have no funds..then we are back to that dang hand wringing again, but…not for long…because where there is a way there is always a means.
I’ll talk about sponsored funding in another blog.
If you have received one of those wonderful stimulus funding plans I would suggest you put a good portion of what is left into the budget you need to have a professional develop a 12-month video marketing plan.
YES! A 12-month plan.
Why?
Because, if you have been producing videos that are not of a high level of production quality…or have not ever used video marketing…it is NOW going to take you 12 months get your business on track to compete with the 45% of the businesses who are way ahead of you and have been using video marketing as their mainline marketing tool.
Yes, there a significant number of business leaders out there who got the message a few years ago and bit the bullet back then…when everything in video production was much more affordable…and moved their marketing budget to video marketing.
These will be the businesses you will be up against when the economy restarts.
However, a 12-month plan does not mean you will not see any improvements or reach profitability until then. The 12-month plan…if done right… should have a fast track start to getting you rebranded or out in front of your consumers right away.
Then the rest of the plan is for you to make adjustments to the strategy to keep it going.
Got To Keep It Going
Again..the 12-month plan is not an onetime fix-all and then go back to what you were doing.
No!!! Video marketing is like your exercise program. It should make your business stronger…and should be ongoing to keep your business in top shape.
Remember..most of your competitors have already secured a video consulting company like SyncLab Media to keep them on track and developing the next strategy before the old strategy has finished.
Video marketing will be how your business rolls once it gets restarted.
Now, there are a lot more things you need to plan for to get through this pandemic ran economy.
But, doesn’t it make you feel better now that you know where to start with making a plan?
Let me know how I can help!
