Asking me what you did wrong after I say… “No Thank You” …to your unsolicited message on LinkedIn really does not help you close the deal.
I get messages on LinkedIn nearly every day from people wanting me to take a minute of my time to chat about how THEIR program will generate Business Leads from LinkedIn users. First of all, there are hundreds…if not thousands… of people on LinkedIn trying to sell business leads.
Frankly, the “Let me find business leads for you” business model needs an overhaul.
I naturally tell the people I accept as a new LinkedIn contact and then immediately hit me up on my message chat to ask me for a minute of my time… No.
Why??..well I will get to that later.
Now, what happens after I take the time to hit the button …“No Thank You”. ?. Answer: that person sends me a response they feel is an addition to their sales pitch that goes like this…
I know you have a lot on your plate, but if you could find a minute to tell me what could have changed your mind, I’d really appreciate it.
If you have to ask where you went wrong you may want to take a look at what you doing in the first place.
Now let me get to the reason WHY I politely respond with “No, Thank You”.
98% of the LinkedIn Lead Generation programs that LinkedIn users boldly claim will generate business leads will not generate business LEADS. What these programs generate are contacts these people have made with people they got to respond to their LinkedIn messages asking people if they have a minute to chat.
Yeah, I know, they only wanted to be friendly and say they want to build a business relationship with a fellow LinkedIn user…and NOTHING else.
How It Should Be Done
If these people who ask me for a minute to chat really wanted me to buy into their LinkedIn Lead Service they should start off with saying…
“Hey, Scot I ran into Mr Smith from the XYZ company who told me he needed to talk to someone who only deals in high-quality video marketing. I sent him to you. Hit me up after you talk to him to let me know how that went and let’s talk more about providing you with more leads like him.”
Great Job Covering Up
You can spend hours on Google searching for why LinkedIn Lead Generation programs do not work for the majority of businesses and you will soon find that LinkedIn has done an excellent job of producing a lot of content that will keep you from finding any information on how They Do Not Work. Believe me I know.
It was not until page 8 on Google I started to find information from people who fell for these Spam Messages on LinkedIn and then was lead down a rabbit hole to spending a lot of money for a service that would never work for their industry.
I have fallen for their ploy a few times so I am speaking from experience.
So, if you are reading this and you are one of the thousands who have a LinkedIn Business Lead generator as your only business service and feel SPAMMING your LinkedIn contacts is a sound business plan…well that is where you went wrong.
Granted there may be a program out there that does what a Salesperson would do..grinding out cold calls to find qualified leads to send down a client’s sales funnel…but is that a LinkedIn Business Lead program or someone working on Commission Sales for someone?
Wouldn’t it be better you send me a message saying you are a Commission Sales Professional who has a few hundred qualified clients to send my way? Then expand upon why you feel they are qualified..instead of Spamming everyone on LinkedIn who Accepts You as a contact? If you are fumbling for the answer to these questions…here is the answer…YES!
Better yet, send me an email listing the leads you have for me and you want to have coffee to talk about how we can work together. That works for me since I..like thousands of other LinkedIn users who are tired of the Spam..are now only connecting to people I can meet in person.
Asking me..or anyone..where you went wrong, or what could have changed my mind, would be a good question to ask if that question came after I received a signed retainer agreement for my consulting service. That is what you did wrong.
Let me know how I can help.
