On average, 6 out of ten solopreneur marketers will do their own video marketing thinking it is saving them money when in the long run it is costing them more than they saved. Why?
Waste of Time
Most small business and entrepreneurs do not take into account the amount of time they spend producing videos. Or what they could have been doing during that amount of time that would have been more profitable to their business.
Thinking Good Enough is Good Enough
The cost of the equipment also another factor DIY marketers underestimate. They will fall for the trend of using their smartphones to avoid doing the right thing and use a quality camera.
Yes, there are some awesome smartphones that have some ridiculously awesome cameras built-in. However, at the end of the day…a smartphone is a phone..not a camera…it is a device…not a camera…and especially not a Video Camera.
Yes, there have been millions of videos made using smartphones, and for what was videoed with the smartphones many of them have turned out to be good enough. But…thinking Good Enough is Good Enough is not really Good Enough when it comes to your professional image.
Poor Quality Content Impacts Brand Image
When it comes time to attract viewers thru the use of video marketing quality wins out every time. Consumers…your viewers…control your professional and personal image. Those brands that produce consistent quality videos are who the buying consumer gravitate to watching. Why?
Marketers and brands who understand the importance of brand image do not produce their own videos. They turn that process of their business over to professionals and move on to doing what they do best which is not producing videos. So, why do so many put their professional image at risk?
Defiant Attitude Makes Things Worse
Oh, I know. Just the mention that something someone is doing can be done better by a professional will bring out the defiant attitude in a person. Seems it is a by-product of the internet. Or, does it go back to when your parents told you shouldn’t waste your allowance on buying candy…but then you did buy the candy anyway just to defy their advice.
Poorly produced videos being posted on LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and (gasp) Facebook are kinda the candy people buy instead of taking professionals advice to stop producing bad videos.
Cheap is Cheap
Naturally, the cost to produce your own videos is going to be lower. However, a cheaply produced video clearly reflects upon your professional image? So in your viewer’s mine, if the video comes across appearing to be cheap they can only assume your product or services are cheaply produced.
It is your choice. Hope you make the right decision when it comes time to develop your strategy for using video marketing.
