What I find amazing has to do with the large percentage of experienced executives who lack any understanding of the importance of digital marketing and how to use it.
I meet with a lot of business leaders each week. I think my record is 12 meeting in 5 consecutive business days.
Over the past five years, of these meetings, I have talked to a growing number of executives…the men and women who make the big decisions for their companies…who say they just do not see the importance of using digital marketing to expose their brand.
When I throw video-centric digital marketing into the conversation the lack of understanding its importance grows exponentially.
I hear statements like…‘…why do I need to use social media to market our brand when the old methods are producing success?’
Nobody ever said that old school methods of marketing should not be used.
OLD School Marketing Changed
Actually, old school types of marketing like showcasing your products at EXPOs and Conferences should be a strong part of your current overall marketing. However, how you advertise your involvement in EXPOs and conferences is now done through social media…the mainstay of digital marketing.
What business leaders need to accept is digital marketing…especially video-centric digital marketing…is now taking lead over traditional ‘Old School’ marketing.
New School Digital Marketing
It takes me a good bit of time to convince old school marketers that digital marketing is now becoming old school marketing. What convinces them is when I ask them to look around at the people in the room and see how many of them are on their phone, tablet or laptop..that includes the people in the room who are there to listen to the conversation. 75% of the people in view are involved with some sort of Digital Marketing.
These people in the room who actively are using a digital device during a meeting are either on Google searching for data, emailing information back and forth to someone or they are watching a Video….yes…watching videos.
Why Digital Marketing Is Important
Sometimes there is an issue the group is discussing that needs to be fixed. What happens is one of the sharp tacks in the room will quickly check YouTube to find the ‘How To’ video that shows how to fix the problem being discussed. Yes, that is using digital marketing.
The person or brand that created that How To Video achieved their marketing strategy for that Video.
The Power of Video Marketing
The same thing happens when a meeting is called to discuss a need for the company to find a new vendor. Everyone in the room who knows how to be of value to the team will hit Google to find the Profile Video associated with the owner or chief executive of the business that offers the service or product the company needs. The vendor that produced the Profile Video wins. Those brands offering the same product or service but avoided having a Profile Video produced….LOSE!!
Executives of businesses, or brands, who avoid accepting digital marketing are really hurting their company’s profitability. Same goes for the companies whose leadership can’t see the value of video marketing. Video-centric digital marketing strategies developed by a team of experienced video marketings are the way to go.
