How many times have you heard someone say to you…? “So, If I was you.”
This seems to be how a lot of social media advisors starting off their remarks to their clients when it comes to discussing how social media should be used.
Facebook Alternatives
The most discussed issues being discussed amongst digital marketers has to do with how Facebook has really lost its luster with consumers. OH, Facebook will always be the center ring for High School Reunion circus and endless announcements to events that Facebook will only let a few people see, but never will Facebook be again the place where consumers looking to buy something or hire someone is going to be hanging out. And, if they are they are not going to be engaging.
There will always be a lot of hype around Facebook being the platform with the most users. Since there is no way to validate how many users ANY social network has, they are going to run with whatever numbers sounds good. And Facebook is always going to find a fleet of influencers to convince their following that there is a lot going on over at Facebook. They have to now that they have stockholders.
Other Spaces to Fill
This is why many digital marketers are starting to say, “If I was you” and then some statement associated with the advice they are giving you. Usually, the complete statement goes like this…If I was you I would develop a strategy to use less Facebook and more (fill in the blank with a social platform more focused on your business needs).
For businesses and brands there are now better places than Facebook to spend valuable time and be more productive with the time spent.
LinkedIn has snuck up on the marketing world to be a much more viable market for B2B. YouTube still holds the number one status for video-centric digital marketing for product and service-based businesses. And of course, you have the old workhorse Twitter to keep the engagement going for all businesses that Facebook just couldn’t do.
Instagram, Pinterest and Snapchat, along with a number of other growing social platforms, are starting to connect the more trendy businesses with their micro markets of consumers.
Facebook Cliché
So, as you can see there is a lot going on in the digital marketing arena that makes using Facebook cliche. So, If I was You I’d get off Facebook and spend your time where it has a better chance of fulfilling your mission.
