3 Video Marketing Mistakes

June 14, 2018 By Scot Duke

I see good people every day attempting to execute a video marketing strategy they have been told would help bring attention to their brand.  Instead, it is NOT.

What works for one person generally does not work for anyone else…but..that is what so many video marketing experts tell people they should do and the Walk-N-Talk Selfie style video is what they are telling people who attend their seminars they should do right now.

In nearly every case, what these so-called experts have been telling people to do to improve their video marketing, or what they see others doing thinking it is ‘Kewl’,  is making them look very foolish.

And appearing Foolish does not persuade anyone to write you a check.

3 Video Marketing Mistakes

There are three video marketing strategies I see being used frequently that is not producing the professional image the person shooting the video thinks it is.

Here are the top 3 video marketing strategies being used by a large number of people that are killing their Brand.

#1 – Walk-n-Talk Smartphone video

The person who invented the wearable Selfie Pole should be prosecuted for sensory assault.  I am sure someone, right now, is doing a study on how many people develop vertigo, became nauseated or got a craving to do something crazy after watching ten seconds of the Walk-N-Talk selfie video.

Granted, when these quirky videos came out they were kinda cool.  Now, there is not a week goes by that someone contacting us for video-centric digital marketings consulting will advise us to not put Walk-n-talk smartphone video in their video marketing.

Really, over 90% of the ‘walk while I talk videos’ being posted on LinkedIn are so poorly produced consumers are clicking off them in the first 2 seconds.  Many do not want that person’s frequent use of Walk-n-Talk selfies showing up in their social stream so they will block them or take them out of their connections.

I know there are a number of people who get positive feedback from their videos that their following like the selfie videos but are these friends being nice in an effort to keep from losing a Follower?

There are so many other strategies a person could use as part of their video marketing that would attract just as much attention..like..aaah..hiring a camera person to that uses a camera gimbal to walk in front of the on-camera talent.  Professional and experienced videographers will produce a quality video people will want to watch.

Yes…quality video marketing costs money, but what is your brand image worth?  If you said,  ‘Nothing’ then keep using the Walk-N-Talk Smartphone videos.  But if your brand image is worth more than a $1 then it would be worth investing in hiring a camera person to shoot a day’s worth of walk-n-talk videos that support your video marketing plan.

#2 Bedroom-Studio Shows

If you want to kill off your YouTube viewership then keep using a video marketing strategy that includes you producing a series of low-quality videos from your bedroom office.

Bad lighting, bad audio, and distractions on the wall behind you will result in you coming across as an amateur.

Again, there are many people producing some quality videos from their home studios,  However, there are far more who are not and that is affecting those who spend the time and money setting up a professional studio in their home office.

The best solution is again to hire a video-centric digital marketing agency to shoot a series of videos in a studio.  A video-centric digital marketing agency will spread out the cost over a year whereas as a video production crew will just shoot what you way you want and give you a 30Day invoice.

If your video marketing strategy is sound then the cost of producing a high-quality series of videos to promote your business should be rewarded by attracting viewers to watch your quality produced videos to learn what you offer.

#3 Bad Green Screen Videos

Green Screen Videos have been around for over 15 years now.  The technology has evolved so just about everyone can use a green screen with their video editing program.

Still, there are far more people who do not use green screens correctly and produce very poor videos, which…again…kills the brands of others who do better jobs of using green screen.

A professional video production director that is connected to the video-centric digital marketing agency knows exactly how the camera needs to be set to the type of green screen being used.

There are DIY Video Marketing strategies that work, but only if managed by someone who knows what consumers are saying about the videos they watch.

SyncLab Media is a video-centric digital marketing consulting agency who knows how consumers react to different types of videos and develops digital marketing strategies to support using videos to get a brand’s message to it’s audience.
