When Your Online Image Bites You on Your Offline Butt

June 11, 2018 By Scot Duke

Like it or not, posting a caveman as your headshot on your personal profile and then feeling your extreme views on all issues are popular are going to come back around and bite you on your online Butt!

Acting negatively online finally comes with a cost.  And that cost is going to bite a lot of people on their online butt.  Not only will the negative image run off business but will leave you out here in La-La-Land all alone.

Debating is one thing and can be productive.  But trash talking is not debating. However, trashing someone seems to be many people’s form of debating.  Now, according to all of the New Privacy Policies being issues,  that behavior will not be tolerated on most all of the social networks.

It has taken 15 years for the social networks to see what damage having a billion trolls and devious individuals running rampant on their site can do.  Now they are forced into doing something or lose a large part of their more productive user base.  Unfortunately, it took someone getting hurt to force them to take control of their user base.

One can only hope that the big sites like Facebook will take the lead and change their platforms to become more private for their users.  The downside for Facebook is for them to do the right thing they will have to change how the site works.   They will have to hire tens of thousands of “Enforcers”.  People who monitor their platform and battle with the Darkside of the internet users who are deeply rooted in Facebook’s culture.

Facebook is not the only platform that carries a large volume of people, places and things who enjoy harassing people.  They are nearly everywhere.

So, who owns the internet?

The internet will never be a puritan state and thank goodness for that.  However, if the social networks do not take responsibility for validating who is on their site then someone is going to run them off the internet.

There has been far too much damage done to good people’s reputations at the expense of others who are using the internet as a thrill ride.  Producing fake news is one thing, but stalking and trolling has always been a game sick people like to play.

Well, now their online behavior is coming to bite them on their online butt.

Not sure there is anything I can do to help!
