I know a thing or two about digital marketing because I’ve seen a thing or two about digital marketing.
This also goes for all of us at SyncLab Media hearing from business leaders who tell us their reason why they don’t trust digital marketing.
It is very unfortunate so many business people have a negative attitude towards digital marketing. Most of their mistrust comes from unfortunate experiences they have had with digital marketing firms who have nobody on staff with any practical experience in business operations.
Assume Too Much
The concern I have is many of the reasons given for not trusting a video-centric digital marketing strategy are based on assumptions or, on how a less experienced video production company attempting to guess what type of video would work for the business.
Won’t Make Millions in Minutes
The root reason we have found comes from business leaders feeling the cost of digital marketing is not justifiable. Unfortunately, there is no getting around the cost associated with a video-centric digital marketing strategy.
Some of the more specific reasons given associated with the High Cost were:
- Not a significant ROI
- Too long of a ramp up to gaining sales traction
Lack of Validation
This is not to say some of these reasons given were not valid. Business leaders are not falling for the hundreds of statistics many marketing agencies produce to validate their digital marketing strategy was a success. The large numbers of users, viewers and potential clients shown on these reports marketing firms have produced just cannot be validated. Anyone who believes there are billions of Facebook users needs their head examined.
The only reliable statistic that can be used to validate the success of a digital marketing strategy comes from the business’ bank statement. If during the length of the term of the strategy the amount of the balance in the bank account went up then the trust in the digital marketing agency who developed the strategy can start to grow.
Search For Experience
Digital marketing agencies should see that projections and market analysis reports are just indicators of possibilities. They should understand that the endless list of user reports offered by the many social networks are made to make their stockholders happy and should only be used by digital marketing agencies for their entertainment purposes….not to be used to validate a possibility.
Businesses should search for those digital marketing firms and agencies who base their strategies on their experience.
Stop the Madness
In 2018, businesses, brands, and entrepreneurs will need digital marketing more than ever. They will need to stop avoiding digital marketing for reasons other tell them. Business leaders need to reach out to digital marketing agencies who have not just an expertise in video-centric digital marketing, but who also are owned, managed and staffed by people who understand the current challenges businesses are going through because they have been there.
In order for a digital marketing agency to be able to provide a business with effective marketing, they need to have an understanding of that business’ operations… what their challenges are and what their competition is doing.
A business’ marketing agency needs to be more focused on developing a strategy that accomplishes the business’ goal more so than only focusing on when they can invoice the business for their services.
