How Much Does Your Social Profile Photo Tell About You?

February 3, 2017 By Scot Duke

How important is showing my face in my social profile photo?  Why does it really matter?  The answer to this questions are self evident since it matters a whole lot to those who I have yet to meet, or they have yet to meet me.   How can you build trust in anyone if you cannot see who they are?

Even after 15 years of of debate there are still millions of people who just don’t understand the importance of being trustworthy.  Now there is a science around the need for a headshot photo online.

Back during ‘The Big Bang’ of the beginning of social networking,  being seen online was more of a Game than what it is today.  Now days, being online is a mandatory part of life.

If someone does not have an online presence they are considered less trustworthy.  Friends and consumers consider someone no online must have something to hide.  Unfortunately, there are does who do have a presence online who appear even less trustworthy than those who are not online, that is because they DO NOT have a headshot photo.

The millions of people who refuse to show their face anywhere in their online social profiles are still not taken very seriously by others online, if they are taken seriously at all.  Those who choose to post something different than their face are also not being taken serious.

The reasons for why people do not post a photo showing their face are really not valid anymore.  If you can’t show your face online due to fearing you will be approached by a real live troll bully or serial killer, then you probably have no business to be online.

However, in the business world, if a consumer can’t find a photo, or video, of the person in charge of a businesses, they will move on to one of their competitors who understand the importance of building trust amongst potential clients.

In the job search arena, recruiters get the feeling a candidate has something to hide if they do not have a headshot photo in their personal profiles.

In the social world, where there is an oceans of Trolls lurking in the darkside of the internet, if a person does not have a real headshot photo they are completely ignored, even by their close friends.   Most people who have been online for a while have developed a sixth sense about users of social platforms and will over look even their best friends if they have something posted other than their familiar face.

The reasons for people not posting a headshot are not kinda foolish and goes back to if someone can’t show their face online in fear of some sort of reprisal they probably do not need to be online anyway.

It is time to key into Google the keyword Photographer so to find someone close by who can take a photo of you suitable for posting in your social profile., or just have a friend use your smartphone to take a shot of you at the museum or other place of relevance.

Headshot photos are import and everyone should be posting one..NOW!

Let me know how I can help.
