Recently, I was asked by a new acquaintance where they could find a video production “outfit” who also consults on what type of video they should use and then consult them on where best to use the video?
Obviously, the person I just met had know knowledge on what I do professionally so I played along doing what I do best…Listening. The new business owner outlined to me the adventure he had been on in search of finding someone to help solve his problem of having no video content anywhere in his digital footprint.
Naturally his trek started by attending a local social media event where speaker after speaker offered compelling evidence on how by 2018 over 68% of the content on the internet will be provided in a video format. This sent him to the internet in search for confirmation which lead to him realizing he needed more than just a video. But “Who should I trust to tell me ‘it like it is’ and at least provide them a plan, or “Map” to follow.
By now my new acquaintance noticed my patience in listening to him which lead him to ask me if I knew anyone. Of course my replay started off with a question…”You are aware I am a partner and the operations director of a video centric digital marketing consulting agency?” The look on his face was mixed with both surprise and embarrassment as he glances down at the business card I previously handed him.
Our conversation continued on for several more minutes where he expanded on telling me how he had talked to digital marketing agencies and video production companies who seemed to only be focused on wanting him to tell them “How much of a Budget” he had before they would tell him their approach to solving his problem.
He told of the hundreds of hours he and his staff have spent on the internet pouring through very expensively produced web-sites in hopes to gain knowledge on what the firm they were viewing could do to solve their problem of not having any video content on the internet.
And, of course, he reported to me on the horror stories he has heard from other business owners on spending ten’s of thousands of dollars to get a well produced video but only to be handed a thumb drive that held the video and the invoice. All of what he was telling me I had heard a number of times before.
How To Find a Trustworthy Digital Marketing Agency
Since this was by far not the first time I was asked this question, I will take it there are a large number of business owners, marketing directors and entrepreneurs out in the business world searching for help fining the right firm to assist them in producing a digital marketing strategy. Since there are so many digital marketing and video production agencies to choose from there naturally is going to be apprehension on which is the one to do the job.
I put together a list of things to consider.
Here are 3 Things to take under consideration when deciding who to talk to about video production.
- Experience in Business. There are thousands of video production groups who have been producing videos of all types for a long time, but have no experience in knowing if the video they want to produce for you will fit your business needs. There are even more digital marketing companies who know every feature and tweak on using Facebook and Twitter, but have very little knowledge on what type or style of video would represent your business image. It is best to look for a video centric digital marketing consulting firm like SyncLab Media..(of course I am going to drop a plug here) who has an executive staff experience in all facets of business operations as well as a deep background of video production .
- Offers Strategy Session. Most video production businesses offer little in the form of developing a digital marketing strategy. They are very good at developing timelines and storyboards for videos they feel will meet your business needs. However, unless your business is digital marketing, it would be best to find a digital marketing agency that offers consulting services that lead to the development of a detailed digital marketing roadmap.
- Reachable. The most difficult part of finding the right digital marketing group has to do with getting through their boilerplate most companies use to filter out potential clients before you can talk to the person in charge. Many marketing groups have sign-in or sign-up forms you have to fill out. Then someone from their sales group will contact you. That is all in good, but does frustrate a lot of potential clients. Many digital marketing groups give you no other option. Make sure you are able to call or email directly the particular person in the digital marketing firm who best solve your problem.
Hopefully, this list will help does business people searching for help in who to choose to produce their video content. And of course you are always welcome to…
