I have been on Quora since before it launched to the public. I’ve always liked the concept of asking specific and rhetorical questions and getting someone you don’t know give you an answer…or at least attempt to give an answer.
Social Questions
Asking a question in a social environment is a form of a higher level of socializing than floating around the internet hitting on +1 buttons. (Sorry..Runover Rant.)
Asking questions on Quora has been all well and fine until the answers to the questions on Quora started to be more of a chest thumping form of one-upmanship self promotion.
If you have been on Quora for more than ten minutes you probably have seen one of these answers from a pundit and other forms of self promotions. These type of answers takes away from the purpose of Quora which from what I seen these self promoting answers has driven away a large number of people I know who use to be on Quora when it was much more social than competitive.
Answers Based On Experience Are Preferred
This push back from joining the Quora community has resulted in people roaming the internet for another place to go to get answers to their question. I seem to have picked up a significant number of people who still send me emails through my blog asking me specific questions concerning digital marketing, operations management and my thoughts on private country club. So, I would take that increase in volume of questions to me to mean people are looking for more than an answer from someone on Quora who says they have a PHD in EVERYTHING.
Where would you go to get answers to your questions?
Let me know how I can help.
