Have you ever wondered How Hypnosis Works? I found the best way to find out the answer to this questions was to go to the expert in hypnosis, Valerie Grimes of The Flow Center.
I brief, this is what she had to say.
How hypnosis works.
Simply put, Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that allows “suggestions” to be imprinted in the brain at a subconscious level. A person’s habits, beliefs and attitudes come from the subconscious. So in order to create changes, a new idea is programmed to replace the old belief in the same way the negative one got there in the first place.
You are always aware and in control of your responses. Right now your brain is functioning on some old outdated beliefs and concepts. The hypnotist staff at The Flow Center works with the way your brain functions.
Under hypnosis they suggest the new habit you want is much more beneficial and therefore becomes the desired goal. Then at the subconscious level the body/brain work together to achieve the new habit.
More To Hypnosis
The hypnotic state makes the person better able to respond to suggestions. Therefore, hypnotherapy can help some people change certain behaviors, such as stopping smoking or nail biting. It can also help people change perceptions and sensations, and is particularly useful in treating pain.
The hypnotic state allows a person to be more open to discussion and suggestion. It can improve the success of other treatments for many conditions, including:
- Phobias, fears, and anxiety
- Sleep disorders
- Erectile Dysfunction
- Depression
- Stress
- Post-trauma anxiety
- Grief and loss
Hypnosis might not be appropriate for a person who has psychotic symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions, or for someone who is using drugs or alcohol. It should be used for pain control only after a doctor has evaluated the person for any physical disorder that might require medical or surgical treatment. Hypnosis also may be a less effective form of therapy than other more traditional treatments, such as medication, for psychiatric disorders.
