You Know What I Would Like to See?

July 17, 2015 By Scot Duke

google-plus onlyHow many times have you said to yourself…or even out loud to a group…You Know What I would Like to See?

I am sure with the way things are going out here in La-La-Land it will not be the last time you ask that question. So……

What would you like to see?

I’m sure everyone has at least one thing they would like to see in a number of different categories, but since we are here on the internet let’s keep what you would like to see to what you would like to see the internet do.

Here is my list…what is yours?

Only One Social Space

Now there is actually some sound reasoning to there being a need for only one social network.  In the beginning there was just one and that should of been all we needed.  But no….  What probably happened was someone in the group go their feelings hurt or was not getting enough attention and decided since they knew a little CODE they would gather up some fellow geeks and build their own social platform.

That was like the big bang of social networking.  Between 1999 and 2003 there were probably over 1000 social networking platforms.  All created out of a feeling there was a need.

Actually, what probably took place was most sites were developed by people hoping some drunk VC would pay the founders of the site a trillion dollars.  Hey, it happened a few times in the early 2000, so I am sure creating a social space to sell for cash was why there were so many.

What all those spaces did was spread the user base allover kingdom come.  Most, if not everyone, are not going to join all of those social spaces.   Unfortunately there was no way one social network could attract enough users to excite advertisers.

So, what did the geniuses who created the surviving sites do…yep, that’s right, they created FAKE Users.  Since most of these guys and gals were programers they found it easy to create a program that create thousands of profiles a day.

That brings me back to being just one social network.  Yes, I know it will never happen but it should.  Just think of all of the controls the platform could have to keep all of the deviants of the world out.  A clear database would attract investors and advertisers.  Advertisers bring money into the equation and that could be GOOD or BAD.

I guess this one we will have to wait and see if it happens.

Can Only Post Complete Sentences

I don’t know about you, but I (and a trillions others) are sick of the incomplete sentences posted in the social spaces.  Yes, I am picking on Twitter (again).  The site set up to only allow you to use 140 characters.  Now, how many complete sentences can you effectively make with only 140 characters?..that includes spaces.  Obviously, nobody can.  So more and more impossible radomization of words will be posted in hopes you completely understand.

Wouldn’t it better if we were only able to post in full sentences.

Put the Boot to Hashtags

I don’t know about you, but if you are one of the millions like me who are out here in the social spaces all day then you too must be going home each day with the # (number) sign..or Hashtag as all of you hipsters call it..burned into your retina.

I’d like to see them done way with.  I can agree that it does make an easy keyword sorter, but nearly all of the hashtag posted are not words so why are they being used.  Google indexes every word in every bit of content, so why would someone need to search a hashtag when he same word used in the hashtag is searchable in Google.

I just don’t see the need for Hashtags and I feel strongly that without them you would get the same search results if you had posted on Google+.  Even G+ has taken their auto-hashtag off the site.

Dropping the hashtags would make for a more pleasurable experience.

On-Off Buttons

Yes,, I would like to see an on-off button put on .gifs animated files.  The New has completely fallen off these looping videos and with the volume being posted it just ruins the online experience.

Live Streaming Profile Avatars

One of the more spookier aspects of social networks is the profile photo.  There are still a boat load of people who have some thing about posting their photos.

That photo is all someone has to go on that tells people who you are.   Not posting a photo in the personal profile really is a waste since over 95% of the uses feel they should have a photo of themselves.

One Smartphone

The ongoing feud between iPhone and the world of more effective smartphones had got to eventually stop.   What I would like to see is there being only one phone.  You can get it in any kind of case, but the guts and OS for the phone are all the same.  Yeah Yeah Yeah….what about innovation and competition?  What about it?  Having only one phone would eliminate the  the friction people make over a friggin phone.  The internet doesn’t need all that friction.

Spam Button

What about a huge Spam Button.  I would like to see the button actually able to zap the IP address that sent the SPAM.  Spammers would not spam if they knew that there was a Spam Button now on your screen.

Just think…if all of these changes were made there would be a much more relevant content to see or read and there would be a better chance for you to see my content and I see your content.

What is it you would like to see the internet do or change or do away with.?
