This is a tough question to answer since no matter what I say to answer this question my only defense comes from what I have personally and professionally experienced which exemplifies the need for Google to crank up a huge advertising campaign to support people and business people like me.
I can dispute the statement ‘Nobody Uses Google Plus’ by asking for a definition of who ‘Nobody’ is to the person presuming Google+ is not used by anyone. All someone has to do is use Google+ to know that there is a very large number of ‘Nobodies’ using G+ effectively.
Why Use Google+?
As far as why someone should use Google+, that depends on someone’s expectations.
If they are out for the social networking, G+ is by far a very robust and mostly troll/spam free zone. Again, it comes back to if the person or business comes into G+ thinking it is ‘another Facebook’. If that is the case then they naturally are setting themselves up to be let down because G+ is not Facebook.
Why Businesses Need Google+
If a business is out to use G+ as a promotional tool, then that clearly can be done on G+ as well. However, businesses are missing the biggest opportunity Google+ offers and that is showcasing their business to consumers through the Google Search from their G+ posts.
What these type of statements people and business make about Google+ indicate is there is either a huge negative marketing campaign initiated and funded by the other social sites who know if Google was to ever market Google+ it would put them out of business…or, the people, places and things who make these statements have too much invested into establishing their presence in the other social spaces and have a fear their consumer base will leave to go to G+.
From my many, many confrontations conversations I have had over the past four and a half years with dozens of business owners and social media influencers I can safely say that most of the statements they have questioning the value of Google+ comes from their lack of understanding of Google+ that can only come from either being trained on how to use G+ or from being dedicated to learning all Google+ offers them.
Don’t Wave Off Google+
It is very unfortunate that there are so many who wave off what Google+ offers them out of fear of Google dropping the platform. Even if Google did drop Google+ they are more than likely coming back with another product to take its place.
The Bottomline is: Social Media changed with Google launched Google+. Consumer’s interest has changed to be more inquisitive to finding out more about who they socialize or do business with. The power of the Search has never been more relevant to nurturing both of these changes meaning everyone who is serious about their social life and business need to be active on Google+ to be able to get a return on the time they spend online.
For those who are not serious or not interested in quality of life there are the other social spaces…that is, for as long as those spaces can survive with that kind of user base.
Learn how to use Google+..it is not that hard. It just takes time.
