I had one of my Google+ followers ask me a question I have not been asked in awhile. Why does doing business always have to be so business like? I thought I would jot down my thoughts on the answer while it is fresh on my mine.
Now, as most of you know, I also blog about Golf over at the Mr Business Golf blog. Since this question came from the business world and from a young business executive I took the opportunity to approach the answer to this question by explaining what I have found to put the Fun back into doing business…which of course is Business Golf.
Life is far too short to have to work at a job that really does not offer any self satisfaction or emotional benefit. Now, I know there are millions of people who are in positions at their business that will not allow them the flexibility to do business in a more effective and enjoyable way. I’ll yield to the fact that playing business golf maybe an impossibility for many.
However, for the vast majority of working stiffs, Business Golf can be played, should be played and would be a perfect way to benefit their business while they take the opportunity to enjoy life.
I’m not going to attempt to outline in this blog post all of the details of How to Play Business Golf. I’ll leave that to you to take a look at in my book. What I will take the opportunity here to offer you is the bottomline of what playing business golf will bring forward to your business.
Taking a client or vendor or staff member out for a round of business golf can improve your customer retention and employee satisfaction more than any other activity. During that 3 to 4 hour round of golf you can learn more about a person than in weeks of business meetings. One of the more important things that also develops during that same round of business golf is the client, vendor or staff member gets to see you as you really are.
Showing everyone who you really are maybe a scary thing to do for those who are cloaking a fault in their personality, however, that could be a positive way to learn how to deal with a weakness in your personality.
Adding a round of business golf to conferences, business meetings or staff training sessions produces the perfect environment for business to not be so business.
Playing business golf takes away the stress of day-to-day ho-hum routines of an ordinary job that always results in employee dissatisfaction.
It would be safe to say there are ways for business to not be so business. Business Golf is a way I found to make that work.
Let me know how I can help.
