Ask any group of business owners if they use Google+ and three out of five wills say… Yes, but not I’m sure I know what I am doing when I am there. The other two business usually will say.. What is Google+?
Obviously, Google has not done a very good job marketing Google+..or Google Plus which has resulted in so many business having a Fear of Google+. This lack of Google marketing, or clearly communicating what Google+ offers a business, has placed a question mark in the mines of most businesses. The question of what Google+ is leads businesses to develop a fear of learning something new.
Why Businesses Fear Google+
So, why do businesses fear Google+? What I have found as being one of the reasons they fear Google+ has to do with what business owners or executives have been told about Google+ by non-Google+ users. There are a few businesses who will attempt to think independently enough to try Google+ but since Google+ offers so much they retreat back to asking others who do not use Google+ all kinds of questions they can’t answer.
This results in businesses developing a fear they are going to make a mistake, or they are going to have to spend more money to learn yet another social network platform.
Overall, the fear results in many business owners to avoid anything related to ‘Tech’. In this case, ‘Tech’ to many businesses owners has to do with anything related to internet.
Avoid the Unknown
There are still a large number of business people…mostly in their early 50’s and older,… who avoided technology at all costs. How they have survived this long in today’s world of everything tech is a whole other blog to write, but more overly they got around not having to deal with ‘tech’ by either having someone else do it for them or kept their businesses out of the mainstream to avoid it.
Nonetheless, these experienced business executives are still commanding an influential presence in many struggling industries who need ‘Tech’ to survive. However, they have cornered themselves to now have to learn how the internet works.
This leads them into going to get help from the many, many, many so called ‘experts’ in the field of social media. Yes…yet another blog to write on why there are so many social media experts who are not experts but people who have a persuasive ability to convince anyone they know what they are talking about. These experts will lead businesses away from Google+ primarily because they don’t want to learn how to use Google+…or Google is not paying to to learn Google+. Yes..they are really people out there who think this way.
Google Has To Step In
The real fear many businesses have concerning Google+ comes from the lack of them being able to find anything written about Google+ coming from Google. This makes for an understandable apprehension amongst business leaders to believing Google+ is going to be around long enough for them to completely learn how to use it.
So, the Fear of Google+ businesses have embraced comes from the fear Google has to market Google+..or at least that is what it appears since Google is not marketing Google+ like the other social spaces do.
The other social spaces, mainly Facebook and Twitter, have put forth a tremendous effort to market their platforms to businesses. Facebook and Twitter have even gone so far as to send representatives to visit with businesses to show them how to use their platform. Google doesn’t appear to do that. The questions many ask is ..Why?
Fact Remains
The fact remains, Google+ has the most to offer everyone. It is a very sound social platform for people to socialize with real people. It is a very good social media platform where Businesses can interact with consumers.
Add up all the benefits Google+ offers and the businesses who use Google+ are rewarded by being placed higher in the Google Search. So, why would businesses fear that?
It is time businesses get real with their social media and move quickly into becoming comfortable with digital marketing. The longer a business fights learning..or fearing…Google+ the longer it is going to take a businesses to get found by their consumers.
