Don’t Give Up On Video Marketing

Icon 400Business owners come to us nearly everyday asking if we can produce a Viral Video!  OH, if they only knew what goes into producing a Viral Video, they would just go for the real digital marketing strategy that works better than a Viral Video.

Most digital marketing strategy clearly indicate a need for videos to to be produced to market a business’ product or services.  However, 80% of these businesses needing straight forward digital marketing are part of the growing number of businesses who are ONLY after producing the elusive ‘Viral Video’.

Yes, there are a lot of misguided business owners who seek immediate gratification in a world filled with very spectacle untrusting consumers.   They really truly believe videos can be produced to go viral.  If they only knew what took place to make a video go viral they would reel in their unreal expectations.

No Highway to Producing a Viral Video

There have been a number of case studies done on what makes a video go viral.  What was found as the one common denominator amongst the businesses who had a video go viral was they had dozens of other videos produced before the viral video. 

Those few who had their ‘one hit wonder’ go viral more than likely used a service like the one in this video.

UnReal Expectations

A business cannot expect their video to go viral.  What they should direct their expectations towards is having enough videos….meaning more than one…produced to capture viewers interest and to answer the question of what your business does.  Overtime there might be one of the videos that could be produced with a little more edge to see if it will draw additional attention, but a business should never have any expectations that it will go viral.

No ROI In Most Viral Videos

Cute videos made to entertain viewers in hope they go viral make for a bad bet since over 95% of the videos that go viral never produce the results the business owner is expecting.  

The 5% of businesses that do receive benefit from their video going viral spent a hefty amount of money…sometimes over $500k…in production costs…not to mention the additional marketing costs associated with drawing attention to the video.  They never really reach their ROI and usually only produced the video as part of a fun project.

Most Viral Videos Come From the Darkside

There are companies out there like ‘BuyRal’ who make a video go viral through malicious means.  After using one of these services the question then becomes..did it produce the results you were expecting???…which most of the time producing enough sales to cover the cost and more.
