If you take a look around the social spaces you will quickly see at least one of the pundits of social media posting an infograph outlining a large number of things someone needs to do to manage their business’ digital footprint.
Granted, there are a significant number of things to do and places to go in order to manage your online existence. To do it correctly you would need to be online all day long. And, who has the time to do that?
It is good to know the importance of managing your digital footprint. Too many people take it for granted. It is these very same people who become very vocal on the lameness of one or more social spaces because they judge the value on the old method of judging value of a social space.
It does no good to moan about what it takes to keep up with updating all of your spaces. You either have to do it….or have someone do it for you. One should not think frequent updating your social spaces platform is not needed. Being present online is now a requirement made by the smarter consumers.
Even if you are online just for the social you need to make sure your spaces are current..or why be online? For a business it is now mandatory to have a digital footprint.
The solution for businesses who do not have the time is to hire someone to keep up with everything online. This is a very good move..that is if you hire someone who knows what is going on.
However, far too many businesses avoid doing this out of thinking it is not affordable or of questionable value. This leads them to attempt to give it a go themselves. The first mistake they make is thinking they manage their business’ digital footprint like they would their personal Facebook page.
If you can’t hire someone to go to manage each space then there are some other options.
Get Real
Reduce your business’ digital footprint to being only in the social space that gives you the most bang for your time spent. Right now, Google+ is offering more value to time spent due to it’s growing user base of interested consumers and the fact all of the content posted reaches the search engine immediately.
Use More Videos
Lack of time is the main factor most businesses claim is the reason why they don’t manage their online presence. It would make sense to spent what time is available creating the most impacting content. Videos have leaped far ahead of the rest of the other methods of delivering content and now is the preferred method of consumers for how they obtain information. Spending time producing videos is very much worth it.
Stay Professional
One of the many mistakes businesses make is to not take social media serious. They will go to a ‘do-it-yourself’ web-site design site and create a website that looks like it was produced in 1990. Then they will plop a webcam on their desk and start producing unscripted videos in their bedroom office (yes, there are still people doing that). That was the way things were done in the beginning. Fortunately, it is not how things are done now..nor will consumers tolerate this low level of digital content.
The best thing to do is to rake up a small budget and work with a digital marketing agency that can produce the image needed to attract consumer’s interest.
Bottomline
Take your business’ online presence serious. If you don’t have time to be everywhere, be where you are going to be found, or where the time spent and content posted will be found by consumers. Right now, Google+ makes that happen.
