Join me as I give you a breakdown of One Day of My Life.
Part 1: I gave you how each day starts. Part 2: Showcased how the day gets started
Now..here is what happens next.
12:55PM
The Google+ stream on Monitor 1 is simmering with activity. The UK Plussers are wrapping up their Happy Hours, the East Coast is reporting in on what they had for lunch while the West Coast…once they get their morning flood of .gifs and reports on what is going on Twitter out of the way…., are waking up to reporting on what is going on out there.
There are a few morning greetings from the early birds in Tokyo and of course there is the ever present Russia and Middle East flow of news from their part of the world.
I hear a commotion going on out in the Studio…”Meeting Time!”..and I am off to the Foundry Club’s Think Tank to get after the meeting we had been waiting for…the one every company has..,or should. The meeting we have on the ‘Ops Board’ named…”The Change”
1:00PM
The Think Tank conference room felt small, not from the three people sitting at the conference table but from the agenda of the meeting. Having had our other ten previous meetings in the Board Room, we chose the smaller Think Tank because this meeting was the “Rubber Hitting the Road” meeting.
As usual, due to the information being discussed, in meeting started off with the formal request for all parties to shutdown all outside communications until otherwise advised.
Yeah….it was one of those kind of meetings.
2:15PM
The first break from the meeting was granted where naturally the first thing everyone did was to trot off to one of the private spots around the complex to check emails and reply to the most urgent of them.
I stopped by the lab for my break and there they were waiting for me… 1054 New Updates to my Google+ Stream.
This time there were 14 new updates marked “Shared Private”…these are the first on my list to check..and rightfully so..three of them were from New Plussers asking for information on scheduling a Digital Marketing session with us.
One person was asking when our next Google+ training was scheduled and naturally two were asking the time for our tee time.
I put all of these Private Post on the side to respond to when the meeting was over.
I quickly went over to my LinkedIn Tab to see what going on in the LinkedIn community.
On LI is see the usual request from four people, I have no idea who they are, wanting to connect….there were four other people ‘Liking my Share’ (blog) I posted…15 people reviewing my profile and five requesting to join my Business Golf Country Club group.
That was all the time had to spend on LI..
I looked at my watch and it showed I had just enough time to review the reports I generated on the figures we were discussing in the meeting to see if there were any adjustments to make..click..click…BING…time to go.
2:20PM
As I entered the Think Tank I looked down at my phone to check the status of the project our outside vendor was working on…and then came the words..”OK, time to shutdown again and get after it!”
3:30PM
The action of Handshakes with everyone indicated that “The Change” meeting was over.
As I walked our guests out to the elevator I powered up my Phone so as to see if anything important was flashing before I got back to “The Lab”. Ding..there was a Google Hangout Chat request…I looked down and there was the message from a potential client I was expecting two weeks ago.
As soon as the elevator doors closed with our guest inside there was this urgent stride to my step to get back to the “The Lab” to dig through all the Google+ communiques so I could bury myself into the Google documents I had ready to be updated from the notes I took from “The Change” meeting.
3:35PM
As I entered Studio 1 I could hear the ..PING..from my monitor indicating of another one of my Plussers wanted to have a Google Hangout Chat .
This time it was from my good friend Chris Kulturides checking in to report the latest going on in North New Jersey.
Chatting with CK is something I look forward to since it makes me take time to get away from the grind, relax and use my sense of humor of a bit. I am very fortunate to have so many people on Google+ who have found the benefit of HangOut Chat.
3:50PM
“What Ya Think???”…reverberated in my ears for a split second before I pulled my head out of one of the spreadsheets I was working on from the “The Change” meeting.
It was Mark asking me to check out one of the rough cuts of a video we have in the post production pipeline. This time it was to review the new backgrounds he was using for the Green Screen effects.
We don’t do too many Green Screen shoots since that style of video shoot is so 1999, but on occasion the client request it so to match other videos they have created over time. We try to modernize the edit by producing better backgrounds.
This time the review was not the usual ‘Milk Run’ where I look at some boring pastel colored screen…Mark had some awesome looking textures and embossed graphic backgrounds. OH Yeah..now “those Pop”..and the Thumbs Up was given…
I’m back to “The Lab”
4:15PM
As I pulled back from monitor 2 I glanced over at the office phone…it was actually the first time today I had time to look that direction.
I noticed the flashing Message light was on and then the phone rang.
“Good afternoon..SyncLab Media!”.
On the other end of the line was someone asking if we do ‘location shoots’. “yes we do!” Then comes the question every video production company gets…”How much????”.
My response..”Wish I could tell you. Since we are a digital marketing agency all of our pricing on video production depends on a lot of factors other than video shoot. Would you be interested in scheduling a digital marketing strategy session so we can sort out what type of video you need for us to shoot?”
As I stretched the cord over to Monitor 2 to call up the Staff Production Calendar I thought..wonder how this caller found us?
I provided the caller the first available dates. The caller took the second date offer and after capturing all their contact info the call ended…”Sure appreciate you calling. How did you find us?
Then came the reply we are getting more and more of…
“We saw your posts on Google that lead us to your Google+ Page.”
My Response… “Awesome…We love Google+, glad you use that platform….OK, well, thanks for calling and we will see you soon. Good Bye!”
These calls from people finding us on Google from our Google+ activity is not surprising but is exciting each time it happens.
Like most businesses we were skeptical about Google+ being able to do anything outside of entertaining us..but these calls prove there is much more to Google+.
4:30PM
WOW..it is 4:30 already?
I shout out to the studio..”Dude..you ready to call it a day?” There was no answer. As I got up from my desk I start the daily shutdown process by clearing my Chrome browser off the screen. As CPU was running the backup program I stepped into Studio 1 to see where Mark went.
There he was… in the editing bay, staring at the 50″ editing monitor with his headsets on, working on an audio edits to one of videos coming out of final production. He was startled seeing me since he was as deep into the edit process as I get into the operations spreadsheets. “What’s Up?”
I pointed to the studio clock. His response…”Geez..is it 4:30?” I just smiled knowing he would not hear what I would say since he didn’t take off his headset.
I stepped back into the lab to grab my Stetson, coat and iPad. Then as usual..I stop to look around to see if there was anything I needed to do before leaving…hummm…I’m out of here
4:35PM
As stepped out of “The Lab” to Studio 1 Mark saw me and this time slipped his headsets around his to say..What ya think about the meeting this afternoon?
My reply..”We’re getting there”. He nodded.
We then quickly ran through what was on the slate for operations the next day and I gave my ‘See ya tomorrow” exit as I stepped into the hallway to may the 22 steps to the elevators.
4:48PM
As I approach the elevators I look my watch to gauge what to expect the traffic is going to be on my route home. Then ‘Have a Nice day” broken my thoughts as I look up to see who was greeting me. It was receptionist I had not seen all day.
As the elevator announced it’s arrival with..Ding..I raised my had to wave good-bye and say “Thanks, and have a good one!”.
The elevator door opens, I step in as I’m told..”Going Down”,,then while the door closes behind me it is once again time to play..’Name That Tune’. This time it was the Mambo version of Van Halen’s ‘Jump’.
4:55Pm
The climb back up the parking lot stairs seemed to be different…it was then I noticed that the building had painted the stairwell and the smell of fresh paint was still heavy in the air. I was glad to get to the 4th floor level to get some fresh air.
As I hit the fob to unlock the car door I started my daily rundown of the route I was taking home today and asking myself..is there anything I need to pick up on the way home?
As I slammed the door shut, I reached for the seatbelt while instinctively putting the key in the ignition. I slipped on the sunshade…turned up the Classic Rock on the radio…then thought… I’t 5PM..traffic is going to be insane.
My day is not over yet…
to be continued.
