Google+ Notifications are one thing, but what about the mega volumes of Hashtags??
My now you have seen the infamous ‘Hashtag Video’ and seen Hashtags being used nearly everywhere in the social spaces. If so, then you more than likely are starting to see the many status updates in the Google+ stream using dozens of Hashtags.
If not, you are VERY lucky. Seems more and more people are getting turned off with the growing volume of posts using large numbers of Hashtags.
How Many Hashtags are ENOUGH?
The question I have about Hashtags is..How many Hashtags are enough?
For those few of you who have not seen a Hashtag...or have seen them and did not know what they are… they are usually located anywhere in a post, but mostly at the end.
Most Hashtags are a string of seemingly incomprehensible train of words with the ‘#’ immediately before. Hashtags initial purpose was to be used for indexing or organizing. You could click on the Hashtag and it will take you to a page where every article or status update that has used that Hashtag will be listed.
Are Hashtags Worth It?
In the beginning Hashtags were an ingenious way for the author, or authors, of a subject to organize all of posts related to a subject in one place. They became very popular. So much so they are even being used in TV commercial, radio advertisements and now even in the print media.
But now the knuckleheads of the world of ‘all-about-me’ have gotten involved and lowered the value of the Hashtag by placing large numbers of them in a post. As a result, the many people will not use them to keep from being associated with this crew.
I originally was not a fan of Hashtags but now have found a few uses for Hashtags that are business related. However, in a resent group discussion at the Dallas Plussers Network Sharing Forum I was told by most of the people int he group they will not click on a Hashtag and sometimes will not circle people who use too many Hashtags.
Hashtag Abuse
I took from the high level of emotion displayed during the conversations that Hashtag Abuse is a growing issue. If you are not understanding what this is all about just started to look around Google+ stream.
It didn’t take me but a few minutes to find the post above. There were several more but were much larger and with far more Hashtags.
So, what is going on with Hashtags? How many do you need? Now that Google+ is auto-hashtaging do you need to worry about using them on Google+. Am I the only person caring?
Google surely does not need another reason for people to not have an interest in using Google+…so what is Google going to do about Hashtag Abuse?
Lots of questions here to be answered. Maybe you have a few answers. If not..maybe someone else does.
Until next time…Let me know how I can help.
