Most of my conversations these days seems to end up with someone eventually asking me why I use Google+. In most cases this question comes to me wrapped around a statement concerning how foolish it is for me to be wasting my talent on a social platform that is going nowhere.
I Don’t Get It
I have grown use to these type of questions and have developed several remarks or comebacks that shutdown the conversation before it goes off into the usual Google+ bashing rants. The most powerful comeback comes in the form of asking..So, you are using Google+?
Naturally the answer to this questions leads to either saying NO, Yes or, the most popular answer to date, “I have used Google+ and just don’t get it.”
This ..“I don’t get it.” statement is starting to get old, but still intriguing. What makes this remark interesting comes when I asked how they came about learning to use Google+.
To date, well over 90% of the hundreds of people I have had this conversation will say..“It’s not that big a deal. It’s just like Facebook!”
Not Like Facebook
What I have found over the past three years of hearing this statement is nearly all of the people…and now businesses…who say they don’t get Google+ have either self taught themselves how to use Google+ from the long stream of blogs they have read or videos produced my a Facebook based media group, OR, they have received training from someone who is not even using Google+.
Needless to say, but I will, Google+ is not like Facebook…period..end of statement!
I’m sure you have seen or read the millions of G+ training articles produced by hundreds of others so I will not go through the hundreds of differences and advantages Google+ has over Facebook.
However, I have found what I suspect is the root cause of the negative reactions many of the people…and all of the businesses…have towards Google+. This attitude comes from who trained them. Naturally if someone who does not use Google+, or who only uses Facebook, will instill a negative attitude towards G+.
So, enough of this “I Don’t Get It!” attitude. My suggestion…or in this case recommendation…is to get trained….or retrained…on how to use Google+ by someone who uses Google+.
Let me know how I can help.
