One of the most asked questions I am asked has to do with what people can do to get more viewers to their web-site or blog.
Since everyone’s interests and goals on how many viewers they consider is ‘gaining traction’, I usually customize my answer from what I am seeing them doing with their site. However, there are things I find with everyone’s web-site or blog that if done differently it would help draw attention to their site.
Following are just a few of the things you may consider doing to attract viewers.
Attractive Landing Page
There is no doubt about the importance of the first appearance people get of your site.
I will be the first to admit my landing page maybe a little busy for many viewers tasted. As many of you know, I have tried a large number of looks over the 15 years I have been blogging. My most recent design displays the headline on the interests I have for my viewers to enjoy. This helps viewers to see firsthand what I have to offer.
It works for me, so it may work for you.
Relevant Content
I am not sure my site is the best example of consistency since I post articles and blogs on a very broad range of subjects. Plus, my site is more of a personal site than a site built for a specific subject. I post articles that have a broad appeal or interest to a large number of people.
For a site that has a specific interest or theme, posting things that are focused on that theme or specific interest would be the best thing to do.
Interact Is A Must
Now that I have stated the obvious, let me take a look at the more important things to consider to draw traffic to your site.
Interact with the people who comment to articles, or who send emails from the site. This will do more to drawing in traffic than anything.
To get people to interact I always suggest the title for the article be written in the form of a question. That way, people see clearly you are asking for their input, or that you have answers to the question being asked which are open for conversations.
Lots of Graphics
The other most important thing to post in the article is a graphic. Or a photo that you took that is relevant to the article.
Nobody is going to stay very long on a page that is filled with just Text. Studies are showing more people will stay to read the content if there is something for them to look at other than boring words.
Videos Rule
Last, but by far not the leasts, are videos. It is a clear fact that videos are appealing to nearly everyone. Yes, there are a few people who can read a trillion words a minute who would prefer to read content than sitting through a slow paced video, but overall, most people would rather watch a video.
Videos can give your viewers auditory and visual content all at the same time. This means more information is offered the viewer than can be written in the article.
Videos are also the most sought after media by consumers who are after compelling information about a product. If you are not using videos to promote your site and business then you probably are not going to get the same amount of traffic those who do use videos will attract.
So, that is what I do to gain traction on my site. If you use these tips you should see more viewers using your site.
