How to Deal with the “Will Nots”

July 14, 2014 By Scot Duke

I Will NotHave you ever had to deal with any Will Nots?

If Not, you probably will soon.

If So, you know how old their story is on why they are not using Google+.

Dealing with them is not an easy process.

Definition:

Will Nots are People Who:

  1. ‘Will Not’ use Google+.
  2. ‘Will Not’ use any other social space outside of Facebook or Twitter.
  3. ‘Will Not’ see benefit in anything that logically and statistically proves to be more beneficial to their marketing.

I talk to business people nearly every day about Google+ and the advantages G+ has over the other social platforms.  This information doesn’t seem to interest them.

On the most part the majority of business owners, executives or managers have a hard time understanding what is REALLY going on with Social Media. The really sad thing about these people, over 90% of them just Will Not base their social media campaigns on logic or validated statistics.

What Influences ‘Will Nots’

There are a large number of business people, marketing directors and social mediaist who have adopted the ‘Will Not’ attitude towards what they recommend to other businesses as an effective way to market online.

They seem to have a complete lack of understanding that marketing to consumers has changed.  They seem to have lost complete touch with what really is working to market a brand in the social space. Most are completely unaware their REAL presence, or digital footprint, on other social networks.

They are unaware their stats are being manipulated by the owners of the social networks to give them an appearance they are influential on that space so they will not leave.

From My Conversations

Over 85% of the businesses I have talked who use only Facebook and Twitter for their own social marketing campaigns will  fail to meet the goal they were told they would achieve for using those platforms.

10% tried other marketing experts advice on focusing only on ineffective social spaces and are getting unverifiable results.

The remainder of the businesses I have talked to have in-house people who they allow only to use Facebook due to the very expensive reports they obtained telling them that Facebook was where they needed to be.

Over 50% of the businesses mentioned they have attempted to use Google+ but after I asked a few questions I found they attempted to use G+ as a billboard or a spamming field.  Naturally they were blocked by users or got their account deleted due to them not being interested in abiding by Google’s Terms.

Will Not Conversion

Recently, I have talked to a few marketing people who are starting to come around to the fact that Google+ is now a ‘player’ in the social media game, but then make the mistake of marketing themselves as an expert on Google+.

Many feel their self taught method of learning how Google+ works is all they need since in their mine G+ is nothing but a fade they don’t need to spend time or funds to properly learn all Google+ features or  just another Facebook.

How To Deal With the “Will Nots”?

It is going to be hard to deal with Will nots for awhile so I suggest just moving around them to trusting the consumers direction.  Ask anyone..a true friend…a client…a vendor…on what they use to find a product or services online and over 99% will say..or should say…they use Google.  That should be enough to convert the Will Nots to becoming a Will Use G+.

Fortunately, the business world keeps goes on and those businesses who are after being found by consumers will find Google+ the only place to be.  Eventually, the Will Nots will be forced to come around to understanding the change that was made from social media to social search.

However, it will only be after they find that the influence they are told they have on Facebook and the results they feel they are getting, all go away.  Until then, I suggest your business seek help in gaining an understanding of Google+ from the many first adaptors of Google+.  That is the only way to change a Will Not to a Will Do.

Let me know how I can help.
