Your Business Goal: Offer a Solution to a Problem

July 9, 2014 By Scot Duke

Consultant.jpgEvery business’s product or service should be marketed as a solution to a consumer’s problem.

Everyone Has A Problem Needing a Solution

Everyone consumer or business owner has a problem they can’t solve themselves.  What businesses should focus on is matching the solution they offer to the people who have the problem the solution solves.  Sounds easy, but is not.

The problem businesses have matching their solution to the consumer’s problem is solved with Marketing.  How consumers are going about matching the problem they have with the solutions available by going to Google.  If a business with a better solution is not found anywhere on Google then in today’s business world they are missing out on solving a lot of consumer’s problems.

Google+ Matching Problems With Solutions

So, what is the solution for these businesses who need to get their solution in front of the consumers with a problem?  Google+ is the solution for businesses who are looking for a simple and cost effective way to be found on Google.

No this is not a commercial on Google+ and to make it perfectly clear Google is not paying me to say this.  I mention Google+ due to Google Search being the ONLY place where I find most all of the solutions to my problems.  From what I am being told and seeing everyday in my G+ stream,  more and more people are also going to Google+ to find solutions.

Things Have Changed

Before Google a consumer would rely first on word of mouth referrals.  This meant they would ask a friend, someone at work or a neighbor where to find the solution to a problem.  Now, consumers go to the internet through a Google Search to find the answer to their question or the solution to their problem.  What they find are businesses interacting with others on Google+.  This is exactly what consumers are looking for.

From this simple action each consumer takes to find a solution to their problem it should be a confirmation to businesses where they need to be so as to be in the running to capture the consumer’s attention.  However, many businesses keep using the ‘Billboard’ style of marketing adapted in the early 2000’s as a form of arms length selling in hopes that posting millions of promotional ads in the wrong consumer’s face will lead to an eventual sale.  Obviously, Google changed all that in 2011 when they launched G+.

Interaction Is A Must

What businesses need to do in today’s market is clearly announce to consumers exactly what problem they solve.  Just posting the ‘deal for today’ is not telling consumers what the problem the deal being offered will solve.  Today’s marketing involves human..yes, human, not BOT’s…interaction with real people.  Building trust is the name of the game, not building empires of trillions of uninterested people, places and things.

Stop Shouting In A Vacuum

The sooner businesses understand they have to be found on Google Search more than in the local print magazines the better they will help consumers find solutions to their problems.  The sooner businesses get on Google+ and show dedication to being interactive the more they will be found on the Google Search.  Resisting Google+ will just prolong the pain businesses receive from screaming their message in the vacuum other social spaces that do not share their content with Google.

I really hope more businesses get the message that Google+ is the place to be before they waste more time and money .

Let me know how I can help.
