This is part three of the three part series of blogs I am posting on Why I Do What I Do. Part two is here.
Google Comes Calling
In 2011, Google came along and reached out to me asking me to help them bring REAL people….real golfers…onto their new content platform Google+. Since my mission was to show how businesses can be successful through interacting online with Real people my partnering with Google to accomplish this made a lot of sense.
However, I never lost site of my interest in golf and helping the game flourish. I added into my efforts bringing real people online who play golf. Unlike the many golf sites who open the door to bringing on anyone with a social profile into their golf community I focused on validating first if the person was really a person first..then, if they actually played golf before I let them in my golf communities. Google liked that!
Since 2005 I have been able to attract online a respectable number of golfers who enjoy interacting in private.
So, what is it I do exactly?
My efforts so far has focused on how I went about learning the internet, however there is a lot more to me and what I do. I have just brushed the surface of why I do what I do and still do.
What I now do is help people understand what all the hype is on new things happening online and translate what really is going on behind the endless articles proclaiming dooms day for Google and explain what the other social spaces are really doing for their users. This brings me to have a lot of offline conversations with many of the leaders of business who are tired of being told they need to be on Twitter and Facebook and getting nearly nothing out of it. I use my years of experience in business to help them understand what is really going on and how it works.
Operations Management Got Me Here
I have been an operations manager for most of my life. Operations management is a skill not too many people enjoy because it primary function is to solve problems for which not very many people have gained any experience in solving problems for a business. I use my experience in battling unsound marketing plans many companies and individuals attempt to bring to the internet. I also use my operations skills to lead SyncLab Media into the world of digital marketing.
Google Leads the Way
Of course, I have seen first hand the power of Google and how following how they prescribe using the internet will bring attention to a business’ image. I help people understand the importance on focusing on Google+ and gaining an understanding of why if they take their time seriously they need to use it where they will get the most out of it.
Gotta Get After it
Now to answer why I use the tag line, Get After It! A few years ago I was in a meeting with a former special forces Army Ranger who had to be one of the most well rounded business managers I have ever met. Is was square and to the point. He would end the meetings with..Let’s Get After It..which I found was the Rangers rally cry.
Over the past three years I get people asking me why I am online so much and if I am getting anything out of the time. I always answer with suggesting to the person asking the question they should trying spending more time on Google+ and see for them self. I usually would remark, Get After It and find out.
So now I greet all the people in my Google+ circle with a morning greeting that always suggest they Get After It. My three years of greeting people each morning has resulting in a Get After It Posse community where the people who asked to be in this community learn how to interact and be less fearful of interacting online.
The results of what I do is why I do what I do. I am sure I have not answer every question may have about what I do and why I do it. That is why I always close my blog with…
Let me know how I can help.
