Every yard working homeowner wishes they did not have to stop what they were doing to go outside..usually in unpleasant weather… to work on something in the yard. Usually these chores consist of pulling weeds, mowing, edging, trimming, fertilizing, chatting with annoying neighbor about why I am out at 5AM doing yard work. Well, OK, besides the chatty neighbor, all of these chores have to be done by someone and in my case, guess who gets to do them.
Today I came in after doing the bi-weekly lawn chores to sit down and list all of the worthwhile things I could of done while working on the lawn. I do this in hopes I can find a way around doing yard work. So, here are my Top 3 worthwhile things I could do..or would rather being doing..other than doing yard work.
Number 3 – Book Rewrite
Rewrite my book. I get requests every week from my business golf community asking when I am going to come out with another book,,or revise the one have written, How To Play Business Golf. Lord knows it needs rewriting or another one written that updates where Golf is today.
I figure that it would take me about the same length of time to rewrite the book as it does digging out all of the golf balls embedded in by flowerbed that runs along the fairway.
Number 2 – Mug Order
Rearranging my coffee mug collection. This is a very important. My collection of over 30 coffee mugs I have collected during my travels before I became Director of Operations for KEYimage Media has to be accounted for nearly every day.
The mugs stay in a precise order since grabbing the wrong mug off the shelf could result in an inadequate amount of coffee needed to get my day started.
Number 1 Beer Inventory
This has to be the most important thing anyone concerned with proper beverage control should be worried about. I make it mandatory I keep my cold beer in Brewed By Date order.
There is absolutely nothing worse than coming in from a hot round of July Golf to reach in the refrigerator to pull out a robust May Brew Miller Lite made for evening patio sitting when obviously the June Brewed Corona would have been more appropriate beverage when you need something to slam down quickly.
Or,,, when you call out for a pizza and find that you are out of a good Stout Ale. It is very important that the beer inventory be kept in order.
Life Goes On
I am sure given more time, I could have listed a a dozen things I could better spend my time doing than going out in 100 degree weather to do yard word. Writing this silly rant of a blog is one of them. Sorting my golf socks by season is another. See..there are just way too many things needing to be done than spending hours doing yard work.
Thus, I’ll leave this dilemma to your thinking since you also must have come to this blog searching for guidance or statistics to present to your wife as your defense for not doing yard work. I wish I had been of more help since I too looked to see if anyone else had any persuasive argument on why doing yard work was a waste of time. Unfortunately, peer pressure from the neighborhood probably would be the result of me putting my foot down and not doing yard work.
So, guess yard work is just part of life. I’ll just have to let the organizing of the pantry into food groups wait until winter when the yard goes dormant.
Let me know how I can help.
