So, you are sitting there running down your emails and you start to see Google+ Notifications by the dozen. This either excited you that your are getting traction on G+ or disturbs you because now you have to go thru and find out what the notification is telling you. Lots of time is spent daily by millions who have left their G+ Notification option ON and now are getting tons of emails. What is generating these notifications?
Where G+ Notification Come From
Naturally, anytime some makes a comment to a post you made to the G+ Feed you will get an email notification. Anytime someone places you in their Circle you will get an email notification. Anyone you put in your circle and they put you in your circle you will get an email notification. Anytime someone posts in a community your own you will get an email notification. Anytime someone Tags you in a photo you will get an email notification. There are more ways of getting a G+ Notification email, but I think you are starting to see the pattern now. You can get covered up with unnecessary emails.
However, the one most aggravating, and someone times uncalled for, G+ Post that generates an email notification is when someone post to a Circle they have put you in and send posts..over…and over…and over. Of course, creating special interest circles is one of the things that makes G+ the best social space on the planet. Unfortunately, the people who use the Personal Profile as a business tool post to special Circles rather than to the Public Circle due to it bringing added attention to their post by generating an email notification.
Online Marketing Has Changed
Yes, posting to a Google+ Circle targets the message to people who are interested in the message…keywords here is…Interested in the message. Filling a Circle with everyone you have Circled so you can send non-stop unannounced promotional material, links to promotional material and anything Un-Social is NOT why the Circles were created.
Each time someone posts to a Circle an email notification is generated which equates to spam emailing if the posts to the circle is of content the people in the circle are not interested in. Enough Said!
Fortunately, the world of business online marketing has changed.. finally. Now online marketing is all about Social. If you are one of the many who lack of understanding where the changes have been made or refuse to yield to the change in online marketing then Google+ probably is the the social space for you.
Social Circle
Of course the world needs businesses and businesses need to sell something to be a business. Fortunately consumers are NOT allowing hard selling and broadcast marketing influence their judgement.. especially in the social space. This is what forced the change in old school internet marketing. Broadcasting a commercial to millions in hope a few buy something has really never been an effective or efficient form of marketing.
Consumers refusal to allow unwanted content into their social space has forced Online Marketing to get more Social. Yes, I know this does not sit well with the business people reading this who have such a small margin of profit built into their product or service they HAVE TO sell a trillion units to make a dollar. The question I always have for these folks is..why do you bother doing business if your business plan has a flaw in it? But I’ll leave this debate for another raining day.
How to Use Google+ Circles
The Google+ Circles is one of the many brilliant ideas Google has developed for keeping special interest groups from filling the public stream with content that is only of interest to the special interest group. I post to Google+ Circles for a number of interest I know are not universally popular with the entire world. I also use G+ Circles for business..but not in the Spammy way the many misguided businesses are using Google+ Circles.
So How do you use a G+ Circle for business?
- First of all..set up a Business Page and not a Personal Page
- Turn off the loud speaker and get real.
- Let the people in the Circle know you put them in the circle and what to expect
- Announce in the post what the subject is first
- Use the Google format features or one of the many tools like Do Share that lets you build a Headline.
- Use a Social Tone Voice
- Be brief
- Be social not commercial
- As for feedback and ask the person if they are no longer interested in being in the Circle to let you know.
- Post at the maximum, once a day.
The consequences of blatantly posting large numbers of posts to circles so an email notification is generated will result in that person or business getting quickly BLOCKED. Worse case is that person or business getting reported for spamming for which Google swings a heavy ax.
Google+ is really the place to be for businesses or all levels. Once they learn that the Number Game is not the way to business online anymore the quicker everyone will enjoy what Google+ is capable of offering..and NO Google did not pay me to say that.
Let me know how I can help!
