I am frequently asked.. How important is having a Blog if you are looking for a job? My answer has always been the same… It is very important.
Fortunately, for the millions of job seekers out on the Internet, the Blog can offer potential employers insight into a person’s personality and experiences…that is if the blogger does not screw up and post something on the blog out of character or unflattering.
Blogging for the unemployed or job seeker can provide more than what can be put on their resume. It can show their personality, their humor, what community projects they support or even their philosophy of life.
Here are few things a job seeking blogger can blog about:
- Provide solutions to issues they have experience in dealing with.
- Outline in detail how to do something they are expert at doing.
- Share thoughts on situations they have dealt with in the workplace.
Here are a few things a job seeking blogger should stay away from:
- Whining about issues they feel are keeping them from being hired.
- Unless they are applying to be a priest, all issues concerning religion should not be discussed
- Same goes for politics. Unless you are running for office it would be best to not alienate yourself from a potential employer by voicing your political position.
- Off color humor or insensitive commentary
Blogging is a great way to show potential employers what you can do and show more about the real person than can be put in the resume.
