Do Job Recruiters Really Understand?

October 4, 2011 By Scot Duke

Consultant While remodeling my office the past month, to accommodate the change I am making in my business, several recruiters have contacted me saying.."Your skills are REALLY needed in the market".  This is great, but found most recruiters really don’t understand exactly what I REALLY offer a business my resume does not show.

Naturally, my first reaction with these contacts was to feel pretty cool about my social media efforts working to drawn in the people who know where the jobs are.  After a few emails to sniff out if they were scammers I found they really were legitimate.

As I steeped into taking our communications to the next level I found a comfort in talking to people who are finally understanding business does not run on Marketing alone.  These HR Directors were actually looking for the people who keep the heart of a business pumping..Operations Managers.  YEAH!

However, as I when through meeting with each recruiter the same concerns were stated in remarks they made while going over the bullet points highlighted in my resume.  Statements like…"Tell me a little about this Social Media ‘thing’ you have been working on"…or "I take it you have some tech background since you are train on using social media."…clearly showed me these headhunters were from the traditional mainstream of business.  Their lack of understanding social media got me thinking these people really don’t see outside me being able to manage their operations what else I can offer their business.

I came away from each of the interviews with not knowing what will happen or if anything will come out of these meetings.  The one thing I do clearly see is many companies have little idea how much social media plays a part of their business’ operations, nor, seem to care.  I sure would like to change that thinking.

Let me know how I can help.

Unfornately some businesses today still don’t understand about social media and don’t want to spend any money doing this. In this, they will become left behind and will not develop their business on the internet.
