I know I am not the only one who has waded in on the virtues of Google Plus..of G+ as it is more graphically referred. Obviously, G+ is in Beta with just a few tens of million invited people as the ‘Warm-up Band’. The businesses are not invited in the beta..Yet! The question today is… Is your business ready for the launch of Google Plus for Businesses?
In a straw poll I have done with my contacts on LinkedIn over 80% of the business people, owners or executives have checked on G+, set up a fledgling profile and looked around for a few minutes..and that is it. The number one comment made made had to do with…
I have to make a living from the limited time I am online. Without being able to do that right now on G+ like I am on Facebook and LinkedIn I see no reason on spending anytime there until then.
This is a valid reason for most businesses but also is very WRONG! There are a number of reason they should be on G+ and on there NOW!
In the recent blog written by Wendy Marx of Fast Company’s Expert Blogger Community, 5 Steps To Get Your Business Ready For Mastering Google+ , there is good reason for business people to get ready for the launch of the Google Plus business pages..or whatever they are going to be called. And as part of the ‘Getting Ready’ these business owners should be using the G+ platform now to build the community of people they want in their business ‘Circles’.
The feel of G+ is much different that the other social spaces. The atmosphere on G+ currently tends to be more pure and cleaner than the other social networks. From what little has been said about the G+ Business initiative there seems to be indications the business environment will take on a leadership role in bring businesses into an established market of real consumers. If G+ continues in the direction they have taken businesses will not have to deal with the ‘Jokers’ of the world of La-La-Land and be able to lower their shields to dealing with the consumers of their product or services in a Real social environment.
To add to the 5 steps Ms Marx has outlined, I would encourage business owners and executives to bring all of their employees onto G+ now armed with clear instruction to use G+ as a new beginning in real social networking. As is being demonstrated by the current roster of over 25 million people on G+, most are leaving the silliness and high school atmosphere of Facebook and the bewilderment of wading through the muck of Twitter to start again on G+ using social media in its true form. This new community of G+’ers could be the future..or next step..in the evolution of social media.
So how will you approach using G+ and how will your business prepare for when the launch of the Google Plus Business Pages arrives? Let me know how I can help.
