I know, everyone and their brother…with a few second cousins thrown in…has something to say about Google Plus or as it is better known as G+ ! Most of what is being said is very good. I will have to chime in to say… I AGREE!
But… is it too early to move into G+ as your only social space online?
Wonderful Land of Google
Like most of the people in my G+ Circles, I am finding G+ overwhelmingly refreshing. After traipsing around the internet for the past 15 years or so, joining every new group, social network or chat room, G+ has recharged my batteries to improving my attitude on there finally being a real reason to using social media for building a community of Real People.
A few years ago I had the opportunity to chat with a group of Google project managers during a social dinner in Seattle. They were talking then about a large number of projects they had in their think tanks that were going to blow Facebook off the map. Make then Facebook was falling allover itself patting itself on the back for having 100 million profiles (…of what and for who these FB profiles are for got a smile out of the Google guys.)
I have always been impressed with the confidence Google instills in their managers, but in this case, tying together what these guys were talking about back then may have been directly related to how G+ is coming out now. I will take now from the memory of that conversation Google REALLY does know what they are doing.
Also, one of the many things I like about Google is their stance and principles they stand staunchly upon. They are, by far, the number one search engine for a reason…Trust. If Google did not hold trust building at the forefront of their existence then what they offer would be near worthless.
Their efforts to screen out crap, and the people who produce it, is not easy to do..but they do it and do it well. Requiring the use of ‘Real Names’ has been a hallmark of Google’s requirements since they started. If a person is really not wanting to tell everyone who they are is OK, but coming up with a ‘Clown’s’ name just does not give anyone any trust that that person is serious about himself. Almost everything Google does revolves around gaining information you can trust being correct or, at the very least, not misleading.
A New Re-Beginning
So now, Google Plus is here and quiet clearly in an Alpha (working out the bugs) stage. Their development of a very clean database filled with verifiable real human beings will be the place to be for businesses. A VERY smart move on Google’s part.
I am also excited to see others ..and a growing number of them..who are just as excited about G+ as I am. It does not take a rocket science, or one of those guys from The Big Bang Theory, to figure out what G+ is capable of offering.
Will it be the ONLY social space anyone will need? Wouldn’t that be exciting?
This possibility of G+ taking over full command of all social networking does make one start thinking they may need to go ahead and start their migration to G+ as their social homestead. That would be a ‘Feel Good’ reaction, but is it smart to do right now? Of course the answer is No!
Hold Your Horses
It will not be until G+ brings in the Business Community before a better picture can be seen on what Google is really up to. I place the bet on G+ being a powerhouse social network once all is in place and for anyone interested in having their content ranked high in the Search screen it will be the only place you will need to be.
Will there be a need for Twitter and Facebook? Guess that also will have to wait to see. Until then I would suggest you get your house set up on Google Plus, learn how it works, stay on the site to see how it changes, all while you continue the social networking on your other social spaces. Yaw, Yaw..that takes a lot of time and many of you are not going to want to leave your comfort zones. That maybe a mistake.
Its your choice to take the action you feel needs to be taken. Just make sure your decision to keep moving forward is based on what you will need tomorrow and not what you had yesterday. Let me know how I can help…yes, I’ll be over on G+ if you need me.
