Business Golf and the Super Bowl: Economy Impact

February 3, 2011 By Scot Duke

football There is no doubt the positive economic impact the Super Bowl has had on the areas of the nation this game has been held.  As anyone who has lived in the cities where the previous Super Bowl have been held can contest things can get rather hectic for the locals who are use to having a normal routine..like a quiet dinner out.  The large influx of people coming to town to see the game fill the venues and the business’ coffers. This is GOOD.

With this year’s Super Bowl being held in Arlington, just between Dallas and Ft Worth, you can bet there are a lot of local businesses hoping to cash in on the tens of thousands of people coming to town to see the game.

Another industry hoping to experience an improvement to its bottomline here in Dallas is the Golf Industry.  From what I am hearing from my connections here in Dallas there is a lot of rounds of business golf planned to be played while the football fans are in town.  The Super Bowl does draw in the business people and those who play golf bring their clubs.

I have not seen any figures on how many rounds of business golf are played during the Super Bowl week, but one can only guess that it is above normal numbers.

At least the plan was for a lot of golf to be played by the folks who came to Dallas/Fort Worth to watch the Super Bowl. That is until the unusual icy weather hit the North Texas area this week.  Actually, the cold weather that came in this covered a large part of the country.  Even in Phoenix, AZ, where the Waste Management Phoenix Open is getting off to a late start due to freezing temperatures in Scottsdale.  It looks like a large number of rounds of golf are subject to being canceled or have been canceled to do this weather.

It is unfortunate to see so many of the Super Bowl events experiencing reduced crowds due to the winter weather here in Dallas and Fort Worth.  So many people in the area have invested a lot in the Super Bowl week in hopes it will help their businesses.  This includes the golf industry.  Hopefully, the weekend will be clear and sunny so the golf tournaments scheduled can be played.  I know I will be out there if its warm.  If not, I’ll be like the others watching Golf on TV.
