Places to Find Content for Your Blog

December 1, 2010 By Scot Duke

People ask me all of the time..Where do you get your ideas for your blogs?  I had never thought about it but maybe how I go about finding the issues and subjects I write about would help you to blog more so we all can learn more about you.  Here are a few places I go to find content for my blogs.

Real Life Experience

Most of my blogs touch on my years of experience in the corporate world, directing golf events, from my five year study of the world of business golf and developing my status of Jedi Knight Ninja of social media I was so graciously given.  There really is no better place to obtain original content than reviewing personal or professional experiences.  But, yes, even I can run out of things to write about or fresh things to review.  So I look outside the box for information or opinions other than my own.

Twitter

Yaw, I pass by Twitter through out my daily jog through La-La-Land to see what some of my more sane followers who are left on Twitter have to say.  From time to time I have found from the links they post some great blogs on issues of interest.

LinkedIn

Now on the more serious side of things, I have found LinkedIn to house a number of ways to find topics to blog about.  Many times I will see the info is of interest from one of my contact’s updates.  I will also find in the Answers section questions being asked that I feel would be better served with a blog than to post my answer.  Then of course there are the Groups that once you wade through all the promotions posted can offer up interesting discussions.

Facebook

Yes, Facebook has some value for bloggers.  Like Twitter, some of the information links posted by my Friends (not places or things) have offered some great material for my blogs.

Google Reader

Google Reader is a great place to go and check out the RSS feeds you listed to find content for your blog.  However, this sometimes is like drinking out of a fire hose with the volumes of info that comes at you at once.  Still, once you study how to use the Reader there are some things your friends find that could be of interest.

Netvibes

I use Netvibes for my browser feed and enjoy how I can clearly organize the over 1500 RSS Feeds I have accumulated during my five years of being online fulltime.  This method of created tabs for the different subjects I am interested in reading really simplifies down my search when it comes to finding info on a particular subject.

StumbleUpon

I am not a huge fan of SU but it does allow for an entertaining way to review blogs from a lot of people around the world you do not know.  It could give you a totally different look at an issue or topic of interest.

There are thousands of other ways of finding content for you blog.  Just look around and when something pops into your head..blog it.  Happy blogging and let me know how I can help.
