BGCC: Change What is IT!

August 9, 2010 By Scot Duke

OK, lets get right down to it..Change is Change, Change is Good and Change can be strange.

Change is the name of the game..still.

Years ago, as little as five years ago, a change in business direction or plan would usually take place, on average, of every five years. In 2008 that changed to business plans changing at least once a year with some plans changing direction at a drop of a hat.

Frequent changes in business use to be seen as BAD Business.  Experts would say ‘If you have to change you business plan that much and that frequently then there is something fundamentally wrong with the business plan’.  I can agree, but then disagree when it comes to how business works today.

Change is a must and if it needs to be made it needs to be made today..not after a five year study to validate the change was needed. That would put the business…especially a small businesses, in the business of going out of business.

BGCC Changes the Focus

The Business Golf Country Club is like all the rest of the business world…in need of changing to what works best. Dave Bisbee and I have seen our share of changes with the BGCC, some of which changed while we talked about the change we just made.

However, the changes to the BGCC today are more in the details than in direction…more in how we do business and what we offer than the speed we move into the markets we target.

Not Just A Business Networking Group

The most recent change has to do with image of the Club. At conception the BGCC was designed to be a gathering place for golfers to discuss issues related to business and golf. Then change had to be made to direct more attention to how golf and business go together on the golf course. Then, after learning how to network online, the BGCC members saw strength in regionalizing the clubs to have offline chapter clubs. All this made sense and was put into place.

Interestingly enough, what was generated from these small changes, as far as an image of the BGCC, was not exactly what the Club really was becoming.

On the surface the BGCC appeared to be just another business networking group…and as the offline clubs developed they generated the image of the BGCC just being a business networking group that plays golf.

There is no denying any gathering of business people is going to generate business networking however, the purpose and main focus of the BGCC is not just Business Networking.

Service Oriented

The BGCC is a learning center.  Learning comes in all forms. In today’s economy businesses need to learn new ways of doing business…business networking is included in that new learning. In golf, the economy is forcing golfers to learn new ways to afford to learn and play golf.

The BGCC is bringing to golfers, business owners, executives and PGA Professionals tools to use to develop new understandings of how to develop new business and develop greater golf skills.  Business Networking is just one of the clubs in the bag.

So, to say the BGCC has changed…well, in away it has. It is changing in the way it identifies itself. The BGCC is not JUST a business networking group that so many people want to shelve the club as being. The BGCC is way beyond a business networking group and will never totally focus on that one component. The BGCC is for business people who are looking for a safe place to gather, learn and play golf…not necessarily I that order.

So, let me welcome you to the BGCC a safe place to learn Business and GOLF.

Let me know how I can help.

Our senior business group changed to the more modern & practical “mid-distance golf” format, offering quicker, affordable with less frustrating golf. Same traditional format in a condenced version, that better identifies with our new modern economy. When taking perspective customers out for a round of golf, the benefits of this more efficient game, helps in equating updated & efficient business practices.
Culture change dictates creative business practices, you’ll find it under: Mid-distance Golf.
