How a Virtual Ball Drop will Pump Up Your Charity Golf Revenue

March 29, 2010 By Scot Duke

gtg-logo In this uncertain economy many charity golf tournaments are experiencing shortfalls in fundraising.  Sometimes the cost of producing a golf tournament takes a huge chunk of the gross proceeds raised.  There is now a program that effectively will pump up you gross proceeds raised.

The increased costs passed onto charity golf events is normal and should be expected.  It does cost something to produce a charity golf tournament. You are not going to be able to get all of the needs for the event donated.  So what is a tournament chairperson to do to improve the amount of funds raised?

Logically, most directors make the wrong decision of raising the entry fees..or worst, lower the entry fees and increase the number of golfers to play in the event.

The simple solution is to think outside the box.  Those charity golf tournaments offering something unusual as part of the day’s event usually get the most attention.  However, sometimes this is just a jump from the frying pan into the fire for cost effective ways of raising funds.

New Opportunity

There now is a great program out that has no up-front costs and has a huge potential of raising a considerable amount of funds for the cause.  Plus, it allows the charity golf organizing committee to break out of the box and touch a larger base of supporters.

The program is Give Through Golf.  It is an online based version of the Helicopter Ball drop but without the $10k to $25k cost of hiring a Real helicopter.  There is no cost to sign up.  To help with the promotions of the event GTG builds a web page for the organizing committee to use to direct the supports to go and purchase a Virtual Golf Ball.  Then on the day of the event GTG sends out a link to those who bought a ball to watch the very well produced ball drop program on their computer or at the event.  The excitement comes when the the balls fall into the cut and the winner of the prizes is announced.

It is Just that simple…Oh yaw..the funds raised are send directly to the charity golf event’s account.

Now, how simple can that get?  There is no activity to organize.  Just pass the word during the normal promotions of the golf event about the ball drop.  It also offers those who do not play golf, or not able to attend the event, a way to make a donation that adds value to their interest.

The number of balls sold determined the level of prizes given out to the winners.  With GTG’s partnering with Lexus they are able to offer with 20k+ Ball drops a New Lexus to the first place winner…how exciting that can that get.

There are lesser number of Ball Drops available.  TO discuss the details further or to sign your organization up for a ball drop contact Dave Bisbee at info@givethroughgolf.com .  More details can be gathered at the Give Through Golf web-site.
