Same Old Same Old Is Not Going to Cut It for Golf!

In my hourly scan of the internet, scroll through Twitter and a glance at Facebook I am seeing many of the golf businesses attempting to make the same old tired effort to gain someone’s attention.  The questions is..

Who’s attention are they trying to get?

If they are trying to get the golfer’s attention..try again.  If they are trying to get the non-golfer’s attention..try again.  If they are trying to get anyone to look at what they do..try again! 

Yaw, there are those who tell me..

But what about the tens of thousands of hits to my site?

What about them? Those mysterious hits to someone’s web-site means nothing in the new world of BOT and manipulative SEO programming.  So don’t think those gazillion unique views to your site provide you with any clout.  What counts now is how many Real Live People do you actually know.

Get REAL

Golfers are a very savvy bunch and really it is going to take more than a ‘Hey, Check this out”, catch phrase to get them or anyone online to turn their head.  Non-golfers who would benefit from playing golf are not going to go check something out that tends to look like a scam..and man, are there a ton of them online.

None of the traditional methods of marketing used by many of the old timers of the golf industry is going to work.  What works is simple..

Let the consumer get to know you more than a funny looking cartoon character on Twitter.  Open the door to show who you are so people can trust what you are asking them to check out is really worth checking out.  Take the time to get to know as many people online as a real person and not as a number.

The Same Old – Same Old just is not going to cut it with golf out here in La-La-Land where things change faster than someone can blog about it.  Old style of marketing went out with the 1995 Super Bowl.

It looks like Social Media is here to stay and for those golf businesses just coming online my message is..
