I am seeing more and more people who are getting feed up with the dark side of Twitter.  Dark side being the spam, the Auto-DM’s, tweets that are only links out to uninteresting products and articles on uninteresting things. The biggest waste of time and energy is the number game that continues to be what most people feel Twitter is all about. 

The question is frequently asked but not many have answers on exactly why people on Twitter feel the need for hundreds of thousands of followers.

I think Jeff says it all and more on how the game is played, why the game is played and what you get out of it…NOTHING.

I would conclude that the popularity of Twitter for business purposes will cause the collapse of Twitter as a marketing tool. Then what will Twitter be worth?  You can have a trillion followers and follow twice as many and the value is exactly the opposite since most of the followers are not following at all.

I look forward to see what else Jeff has to say on this since I feel he is on the right track.
