I was out at the club with my grandson this afternoon and ran into a few of the regulars playing their weekly round of golf. I thought it would be good to find out why they play the same time each week and if there was something that came out of the round of golf other than a few drinks.
I found the outcome rather refreshing and they found it surprising that what they have been doing for more than 15 years was more than just a round of golf.
What these guys did not know, until I brought it to their attention, was the group was serving as a Board of Directors for each of their businesses. They were helping each other out with furnishing ideas and possible solutions to problems they were having with their businesses.
Over the years they remembered that each round usually started out with one of the members usually running a little late. Late for them was being about five minutes before the standing tee time of 2PM on Wednesday. However, over the years all of them have been late by their standards. And most were late for near the same reason which was related to some problem at work they were dealing with at the time.
So, during the round of golf they usually dealt with whatever that person’s problem was for the day and after the round a more in-depth discussion was held. Usually, there was some sort of possible solutions offered.
This level of trust in each other developed over time and was what kept the weekly round of golf going for so many years. When times were going well each of the four gentlemen looked forward to standing tee time to get away from the office for the afternoon. When times were not so good these guys looked forward to discussing issues they were dealing with at work.
There is a lot to be said for the weekly standing tee times with your friends or business associates. Over the years I have talked to a number of groups who have standing tee times at private clubs of public facilities. The outcome is all the same..a good time, good fellowship and trust.
I would suggest that you should start a group or join a group that has a weekly golf outing…it would do your business good. Let me know how I an help.
