I am sure many of the new Tech fans I have on Twitter are going to answer this question with the famous question…WHY?
So, lets take a look at Why we need to talk about other things beside Twitter.
OH, I would be the first to admit that Twitter is Fun, Unusual and yes, I would, if someone put a gun to my head, go so far to say Twitter is Cute and Perky!
But really, don’t we all have other things to do beside answer the preverbal question..What are You doing?
There is no doubt what so ever that Social Media is what business people will have to adopt to survive in business today. But does everyone have to use the subject of Twitter to get attention? And does Twitter fit every business model? I am not sure it does. Why?
To answer why Twitter does not fit every business model you have to look at the internet as a whole. Who are the people who use the internet? True, just about everyone uses the internet but who are these trillions of people who are following these relatively few people who we are being told we need to follow to be someone on the internet? On the most part they are people interested in…what? Tech stuff.
After that the next group out here are the people who are looking for people who talk about tech stuff and gadgets. Which leave to the rest of the hordes out here hanging out on the internet searching for find ways to get in front of those people who we are told we have to follow, or link to, to be someone….. and the circle goes on and on.
So where does that leave you and me? The people out here trying to connect to a market that is not Techie, or have anything to do with gadgets or have anything to do with marketing methods to get people on the internet who are here to look at gadgets or find people talking tech to look at sites that are Techie and for gadgets. Where does that leave us, the non-tech based REAL people?
Well, unless you are talking about Twitter or iPhones, Itunes, Social Media or about gatherings for people who are talking tech and gadgets…then you probably are feeling you are only talking to your keyboard or monitor.
However, don’t give up. You are NOT alone… There are more people like you and me coming online who are not based in the tech world but understand it…who’s business really is not centered around any cutting edge technology or gadget but know how to uses it and who are not run by any former .com’ers or pioneers from the tech or gadget world. And who have a lot more to talk about than the latest tech start-up, newest app on Facebook or attending the local Tweet-up last evening. So, hang in there..the TIMES, they are changing…very slowly.
I am starting to see, and hear from, more people who are not interested in the latest Tech or at least not so interested that they have to post several dozen tweets on Twitter about it. There are groups forming and business networking groups developing that are just for those who are not part of what some are calling the ‘Mainstream of the Internet”. Humm…now there is something that is not about Twitter to talk about isn’t it?
Yes, there is a lot more to talk about than Twitter so why are we not talking about it? Could it be it is because you do not know how to use Twitter? Hummm…looks like we are back to talking about the need for that Twitter’s Owner’s Manual I mentioned we all need. OR maybe we should just start now talking about something more entertaining and worthwhile than Twitter… Now that is a novel idea…isn’t it.
Let me know how I can help.
