A Need for a Social Media Manual

February 23, 2009 By Scot Duke

HEADBy now, you have seen millions of times on Twitter, Facebook and even on LinkedIn, where someone honestly starts off with building trustworth conversation with someone only to kill it with a sales pitch.   This kind of behavior is really getting out of hand.

True, the failed economy is forcing many people to attempt to make a buck at any costs.  But, does it have to be that way?

It is unfortunate current economical events are putting a lot of people in a bind financially which pushes their urgency to panic,  but enough is enough.

Settle down people.  Get your head out of ass.   If what you are offering or selling online or offline is of interest to anyone you should make every effort for it to be found through effective social media.  NOT, through social space trolling.

Learn How to Use Social Media

Here is an idea…there needs to be a Social Media Manual developed that becomes required reading as part of the TOG for any business and social networking groups.

I reviewed David’s blog on MediaPost.com on How PR People are Killing Twitter. This is not just happening just on Twitter.  It is now on Google+

What many people all over the internet are thinking they are doing online is marketing their product or brand.  Trolling or suckering people into a sales pitch is not marketing.   What it really is doing is pissing people off.

One of the fundamentals on Social Media is to get people to want to know what you do for a living instead of assuming they want to know.  This is done through effective and clear communications directed towards learning more about someone than telling others about yourself.

The goal is to get people to like you for who you are, not what you want them to think you are.   It is a very logical process that is really easy to grasp which makes it a perfect tool to generating business.

If you are not that type of person and you have to be selling every moment you are awake then maybe a Shopping Cart site might suit your needs better.

That’s my thoughts.  Le me know how I can help.
