For those who like cutting to the chase of a blog in the first sentence, the answer to the question is www.OpenCa.mp
As most of my fans, friends, ‘likes’, clients, mentees, students, partners, associates and family know…I blog..duh! The Good news is..I like it! The Bad news is… I REALLY like it.
Why Do I Do It?
As you look around here on my blog site you will notice I blog about just about anything and even put bits of other people’s blogs on my blog since they blog about something I want to blog about. But enough of this lame attempt to SEO the keyword blog..:-).
Some of you know that a little over a year ago I was hacked by someone and/or thing wanting all my blogs…a little over 3000 of them. Yes, that is a log of blogs that are NOT here today. I have been out here a long time and have been blogging about a lot of stuff which is now lost. Again, no problem. It just gives me another chance to blog about those topics again..this time I hope I do a better job.
Enough about me. This blog is for you and the message today..if you have not guessed..is you and your blogging.
How Do I Do It?
Since I do blog a lot I get asked by newbie, as well as vets of the blogsphere, what platform do I use? What tools do I use to make my blog happen? I also am asked, usually during my social media training, how can someone make blogging easier?
All great questions and questions I have asked of others a few years ago when I stepped out here on this bold stage.
For those who cannot tell I am using WordPress and the (very powerful) Thesis Theme. I use the Windows Live Writer app to create these wonderful looking creations (choke). So there you have it..nothing real revolutionary. Lots of my peers are using the same gear..that is those on the PC. For the MAC users..well, they are probably asleep by now so it is probably just you and me now.
Why Bother?
After I answer the question on how I blog, the burning questions then start coming my way which leads me to where I am today..trying to find an answer. Some of these questions are:
- Is your blogging rig the best set-up for blogging?
- I hear WordPress Sucks..why don’t you use another platform?
- Is WordPress the best Blogging Platform for what I want to do?
- Did you know Joomla rules?
- What else is out here to make Blogging easier?
- When you grow up and ready to really blog, check out Drupal. OK, that was not a question, but a remark that kinda gives you the jest of what and who I am dealing with here.
The questions I ask myself, that got me going on trying to find answers to these questions, was..
Where on earth would I go to find the answer to these questions?
Found the Answer
Well, a couple of months ago while wading through Twitter post I ran into my new friend Cali Lewis’s post. She was chirping about something called Open Camp. Since she does one of the best jobs of saying ‘Hey, Check this out’ without saying ‘Hey, Check this out’, I thought…Hey, I’ll Check This Out.
Glad I did because not only did Open Camp sound like the place I could go to answer all my questions about blogging, but it was less than a mile from my house. As I read more about the conference and watched John P. (yes, I will leave it to you to find out what the ‘P’ stands for) video above I became intrigued with the concept they were developing around the three day conference.
After spending over 30 years of attending, as well as being part of producing, more conferences than I can remember, I find NEW approaches to today’s conferences exciting. Add to OpenCamp being about Blogging Platforms and all things blogging..geez, how foolish would I be to NOT attend? (Don’t answer that
)
Gotta Get Involved
As most who know, my mission is to pass on my many years of experience in operations management , golf productions and now my adaptation of social media as an operational tool instead of the lame marketing approach many find not working. Since it is my nature to get involved with things that seem to be on the right track to making a difference I jump in to volunteering to help make OpenCa.mp a huge success. Plus I am motivated to see OpenCamp be produced here in Texas…more specifically, in North Dallas.
Last evening the first gathering of the volunteers of OpenCamp was held. So are, from the glimpse of what the camp will be offering, I am somewhat impressed. Lots of energy, lots of great ideas, lots of tentative plans being finalized and sounds like a lot of fun. I have to add, since like I mentioned this is not my first rodeo,..lots of headaches for the organizers are to be dealt with, but HEY, if putting on a conference of this magnitude and importance to the Blogging World was easy, they would be held everywhere making blogging look like Facebook..kinda useless. Plus, I would not be blogging about it..would I?
I can say without hesitation, the concept of bring all of the major Blogging Platforms, and all of the attachment plugins that go along with each platform, together in one place for two solid days of LEARNING (verses a lot of talking) WILL BE the place to be come Aug 27 thru 29th.
OH, yaw..I have a lot more to say about OpenCamp (and a lot of other things that matter), so stay tuned and let me know how I can help.
