My Twitter Manifesto
Today was my SOP Manual Update day…really it only takes me a few hours, but I allot a day each month to make sure my operations is documented properly. Since I have a few minutes to spare I directed my energy today to outlining where my time is being spent and recently with all of the changes I am making to my blog site and the IBGS operations I have been spending a lot of time on Twitter visiting with the masses.
If there is anything that can take up a lot of time is Twitter. There are some good things about Twitter, but it can suck a lot of time up if not managed. So to get things in prospective I felt I needed to develop my Twitter Manifesto….
These guidelines would give everyone knowledge of how I will be using Twitter.
So here it is:
The Duke Twitter Manifesto
My Purpose of using Twitter is:
- To Promote Interest in what I and Others do
- Build a Community of REAL People*
- To make announcements of interest to this community
I will Not Follow:
- More Tweets than I feel I can Respond to
- Anyone Who Does Not Have Anything to Say that I am Remotely Interested In.
- Anyone who is following more people than people following them.
I Do Not Expect the people I Follow to Follow Me, but it would be nice since I am very choosy who I Follow.
I will attempt to follow everyone who is following me
I will not make any statement, remark or comment and will not engage in any full scale discussion, debate or paneling on any subject related to politics or religion.
My involvement on Twitter will be to:
- Ask questions in hopes it starts conversation
- Make every attempt to Thank people for following me
- Reply to as many @replies as I can
- Minimize my self promotion to using the ‘80/20 Rule’ (80% Conversational Tweets to 20% Post from my Blog Site)
- Unfollow anyone who follows me and does not reply to my @replies (using the 3 Strike Count Process)
I will Block anyone who follows me that:
- ONLY posts Links and makes no attempt to having any conversations
- Is a suspected Spammer
- Any MLM or Direct Marketers
So there you have it. I will admin and make changes to these guidelines as I need to or as Twitter evolves. I hope everyone understands that my mission is to build and support a community of Real People*. I will only apologize for this manifesto this one time. If it offends someone I am very sorry. It will not hurt my feelings if you feel you need to UnFollow me due to you not agreeing to these guidelines or for whatever reason you may have developed.
I would hope that by me stating how I will be Tweeting it will inspire others to establish their own guidelines to follow. Feel free to use this one if it suits you.
So, lets get out there and post a few good Tweets, ask a few thousand good questions and reply to as many @replies as we generate..the purpose of all this is to have fun and if it is not FUN then WTF are we Tweeting for?
Let me know how I can Help.
* REAL PEOPLE: The world is full of some very, very, very, very talented programs and masters of technology. My hat is off to them for their skills. Unfortunately a few or many of them feel instead of using these skills to be productive they would use their skills to create BOTs and other programs that make people think they are communicating with a live person when in fact the contact made to them was by a computer program. Over the past year I have detected several dozen of these mechanized robotic beings. So the definition of Real People is exactly what it states..a Real Live Person and not a program or roaming BOT.
