When it comes to playing business golf with clients, employees or vendors a charity golf tournament can save you a lot of time.  However…and there usually is always a however….the charity golf tournament has to be a Quality Event.

What does a Quality Charity Golf Tournament Offer?

I won’t go into what makes a quality charity golf tournament.  The bottomline is a quality golf tournament offers:

  • Small Fields: (Generally less that 90 players)  This keeps the pace of play within the norms of the golf course.
  • Visible Purpose: Something out on the golf course that shows where the funds that are being raised are going
  • Outstanding Food: Nothing worse than paying a lot to play golf and get a rubber chicken thrown at you
  • Fun Golf Format: Offering formats of golf games other than the old stale Florida Scramble

The Screen Door Open Charity Golf Tournament has it all.  The Screen Door Open® is holding its 10th Annual Charity Golf tournament.  That is ten solid years of producing a golf tournament that meets everyone’s interest.  This is the rebuild year for the SDO.  A new board of directors and a new purpose.  Not Just Another Charity Golf TournamentBoy and Pro Putting Flat

So is the SDO a quality charity golf tournament?

Lets give it the test.

  • Small Field: The SDO will hold player entry into the tournament to no more than 92 players = 23 four person teams. There will be none of this morning and afternoon cattle calls or triple teeing shotguns that create pace of play traceable only by a sun dial.
  • Visible Purpose: The junior golfers who benefit from the programs the SDO supports over the years will be placed around the golf course the be the team’s fifth player.
  • Outstanding Food: How does a T-Bone Steak sound?  Enough said… right?
  • Fun Golf Format: This year the SDO will be playing the Triple Play Format (6 Holes Shamble-6 Holes -Scramble-6 Holes Best Ball) Steak and Potato

I believe that passes the quality test.

The funds raised from the 2008 SDO will go towards the development of the 2009 Screen Door Open Junior Golf Camp and Tournament.

Screen Door Open Charity Golf, Inc. is a 501c3 tax exempt non-profit organization.  The mission is to raise funds for junior golf programs that offer children who otherwise would not have access to learning to play golf with an opportunity to be taught not just the basics of golf but a complete view of all that golf can offer them for a lifetime.
